Game of Thrones May Have Just Cast A Whale Rider For Season 5

SO MANY NEW PEOPLE IN WESTEROS

As if we weren’t already grabbing for every detail of Game of Thrones Season 5 we could get our hands on, a new rumor gives us our first possible casting—Whale Rider star Keisha Castle-Hughes. Spoilers for all currently aired episodes to follow.

The New Zealand Herald reports the Kiwi actress “told friends she had landed a role on the smash-hit fantasy series.” And who do they say she’ll play? One of Dorne’s Sand Snakes.

We’d previously posted a casting sheet for Season 5 which revealed several new roles from George R.R. Martin’s novels to be filled. It included Obara, Nymeria, and Tyene Sand, collectively known as The Sand Snakes, the bastard daughters of Oberyn Martell (may he rest in peace).

While there’s no definitive word on the casting, The New Zealand Herald also offers up this as possible supporting proof:

Castle-Hughes may have given her own nod to a future appearance on the show, making references to the show on her Twitter feed. She has changed her Twitter handle to include the name Stark — the surname of one of the lead families in the books and television show.

And in the past few weeks, she has visited Hong Kong, London and Northern Ireland, where the show is filmed.

I’m sure there won’t be anything official on this for a while, but I hope it’s true. Castle-Hughes would make an excellent addition to the cast.

In related casting news, Rose Leslie, the recently departed Ygritte, has just signed on to The Last Witch Hunter according to Empire Magazine. They write:

Breck Eisner is still attached to direct the film, which will see [Vin] Diesel play a semi-immortal witch hunter who finds himself in modern-day New York continuing the mission he’s sworn to complete. His latest quest finds him trying to stop a villainous witch queen from finding the relic that will allow her to unleash a terrible plague upon humanity.

Leslie, who is still best known as Ygritte in Game Of Thrones (all together now, “You ner nuthin’, Jon Snerw!”) is aboard as a witch who joins forces with the hunter to help combat the threat. It’s always nice when opposing forces can work together, right?
