  1. WayForward: The Unsung Heroes of Licensed Games

    The company reviving an era.

Usually the gaming figures I spotlight in my writing aren’t those I’m fond of. But sometimes you just need to give someone a shout-out for doing things oh so right. Since DuckTales Remastered, releases today, it seems like a better time than ever to discuss how WayForward Technologies has been kicking major butt at making licensed video games.

  2. Apes Apparently Use The Breaststroke While Swimming Just Like We Do

Motion capture for the new Donkey Kong Country game?

On TV and in movies, you can see various types of primates doing all kinds of athletic things like climbing trees, swinging from vines, even playing hockey. But swimming? That's pretty rare, but it happens.. Allow Cooper the chimpanzee and Suryia the orangutan to demonstrate their swimming technique for you.

  3. Sharknado Sequel Given Title That’s as Dumb as You’d Expect

You guys missed a real opportunity for a Sharknados pun.

Oh, Sharknado, what a ridiculous phenomenon you've become -- so much so that now The Asylum, a company known for their mockbuster films, is considered culturally relevant now. What's more, they're putting out a sequel -- and now we know what it will be called.

  4. Watch The Completionist, Erm, Complete All of Portal For Geek Week [Video]

You're gonna want to eat a lot of cake after watching this.

It's Thursday and YouTube's Geek Week is going full steam ahead. So what is today's theme? Gaming. The smorgasbord includes video game spoofs, song covers, live-action reenactments, and lots and lots of Minecraft. My favorite of the bunch is The Completionist's video review on everyone's favorite science testing game, Portal.

  5. Man Locks Verizon Worker in His Underground Vault For Parking On His Grass

You know who really shouldn't have access to an underground vault? This guy.

A 71-year-old storage facility owner in Westborough, Massachusetts, took the whole "get off my lawn" thing too far when he trapped a Verizon worker in an underground vault for parking on his grass. He was probably either mentally unstable or an overzealous AT&T customer. I'm going to guess it was probably the former.

  6. Snoop Lion’s App Offers $100 Weed Sticker, People Actually Buy It

La La La'ing all the way to the bank.

Microtransactions in games and other programs are nothing new, and neither are incredibly expensive ones. Snoop Lion's new app for iOS and Android, Snoopify, allows you to purchase different sticker packs to cover your photos in. And the packs are all making money for Snoop-- even the sticker that costs $100.

Spec yourself before you wreck yourself.

For those in that party, Major Nelson put out an unboxing video that shows you what you'll be getting if you buy the console at launch.

  8. Here’s What We Learned in This Morning’s Nintendo Direct

I don't object to these announcements.

Nintendo held one of their regular Nintendo Direct presentations, where they inform the public about what games they have in development. Today's was short notice, only being announced yesterday afternoon. But here it is, with plenty of game talk to keep you salivating. So here's your rundown of everything that CEO Satoru Iwata discussed today.

    Kung-Fu Kermit. Enough said.

Here's your pleasant surprise for the day: Disney released a teaser trailer for the sequel to 2011's amazing Muppets reboot. While we knew that it would have the Muppets meet Ricky Gervais on a tour of Europe, we now know that Tina Fey and Ty Burrell will be along for the ride too. More importantly, we have a title-- Muppets Most Wanted.

  10. Send the Curiosity Rover Postcards for Its Anniversary!

It really is the least you can do.

Believe it or not, NASA's Curiosity rover has been exploring Mars for one year, and everyone on the web who isn't still swept up in this weekend's Doctor Who news is sending their regards. If you want to get in on the fun, too, you can now make your own e-cards to send to the little rover. I guess we can call it an honorary Martian now?

  12. New Tetris Mobile Game Takes a Page From Pokemon, Looks Awesome

    Gotta fit 'em all!

It almost goes without saying now that the two most addictive things to come out of portable gaming are the brick-racking frenzy of Tetris, and the monster-collecting of Pokemon. So it seems odd that it's taken this long for a developer to mash these ideas up, but that's just what EA's done with recently announced game Tetris Monsters.

  16. Sonic Lost World’s Dialogue is Pretty Dark, Apparently

Still doing what Nintendon't all these years later.

Ever since Sonic Colors ended the so-called Dark Age of Sonic, the series has returned to a decidedly cartoonish, light-hearted tone. Sonic Lost World, the upcoming Wii U game, looked to continue that trend, but due to certain bits of dialogue it's been given an E10+ rating by the ESRB as opposed to the usual E. I suspect it was written by Shadow the Hedgehog now that he's out of the spotlight.

  17. Phil Fish is Back on Twitter, We Try to Decipher His Weird Vine Post

Welcome back. Now please go finish Fez II.

After four days of controversy and Internet arguing among the gaming press about his disappearance, Phil Fish has returned to Twitter. In typical Fish fashion, his post isn't some obligatory "I'm back!" kind of thing-- it's a Vine of two rubber toy dudes wrestling each other. I can't think of a better showcase of why people love him, or hate him.

  18. Cliff Bleszinski Becomes the Voice of Reason, Writes Open Letter to Phil Fish

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Whether passionately or begrudgingly, most folks invested in the world of video games have been following the tale of Phil Fish and his resignation from the industry. It figures that someone would try and convince him into keep making games. Little did anyone suspect that that person would be Cliff Bleszinski, creator of the ultraviolent Gears of War.

    Somewhere, beyond the sea...

The first DLC for Bioshock Infinite is now available! Clash in the Clouds isn't a continuation of the story as much as a glorified battle arena, but that's fine.
