Woman says her surprise Hinge date, a doctor, showed up 40 minutes late, then questioned her burger order: ‘Don’t you need to watch your figure’

She says the doctor questioned her burger and asked her to split the bill after arriving 40 minutes late and being rude to the waiters.

A woman says her surprise Hinge date, a doctor, soured when he remarked on her meal after turning up 40 minutes late. According to Daily Dot, she shared the evening in a TikTok video with footage from the lead-up and the aftermath. The opening scenes show her getting ready to meet a man who is 6-foot-4 and works as a doctor.

Going in, she says, she knew he ran his own practice, had no ex-wives or kids, owned his home and had planned the entire outing. She had “no idea” where the two were headed, but “hair is done, makeup is done,” she adds. She invites viewers to look her over, noting that she felt upbeat about the date and optimistic about him.

The footage after the date shows her upset and sounding frustrated, and she says, “I’m done dating.” She states the doctor arrived 40 minutes late. She adds that he spoke rudely to the waiters. Her burger order drew a question about whether she teaches Pilates, she says, and he told her he assumed she would pick a salad. He added, “Don’t you need to watch your figure.”

She says he asked her to split the bill

She also states he spent the evening talking about himself, without a single question for her, and then asked to split the check. She says she was fine with splitting it but thinks a doctor could have covered her $25 entrée. “I did not even drink. He had like 4 drinks, a starter and an entrée. I ordered 1 thing, and I split the bill with this man,” she states.

In closing, she asks whether men hate women and if they no longer plan real dates or treat women well. She says she will never go on another date, is leaving Hinge and will date her dog instead. All details come from her account in the video and could not be verified independently.

A NerdWallet survey conducted by The Harris Poll asked 2,061 US adults about paying for dates. It found 72% agree that in a heterosexual couple the man should pay on the first date, including 78% of men and 68% of women. It also found 65% would expect the person who asked them out to pay, including 77% of women and 52% of men.

On income, 57% agree the person who earns more should pay for dates more often, and 43% disagree. The survey states its results are accurate to within 2.7 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. The survey did not directly measure splitting a bill evenly. The write-up adds that every couple should decide for themselves how to divide dating costs.

Bills have come up in other dating stories. A UK TikToker told the story of a Hinge date’s Apple Pay problem. Another TikToker described a first date that went wrong at the bill.
