Woman goes to Walmart for a night snack. Then a man allegedly proposes to her in the parking lot with his sons: ‘Hand me his business card’

Walmart is no stranger to being the backdrop of unexpected situations, like the time a customer was left confused about having to pay for items. But for one woman, her quick night snack run to the superstore chain led her to become the recipient of a spontaneous proposal in the parking lot.
“I got proposed to in the Walmart parking lot last night???” Kelly (@kellybrooke.m) wrote in a video on TikTok. Recounting the incident that left her feeling like “life isn’t real,” Kelly said she decided to make a quick trip to her local Walmart to purchase a snack on her way home from work. She rang up her items at self-checkout before staying a little longer at the store to chat with her favorite cashier.
As Kelly and the cashier were chatting, the TikToker said a man and two young boys, whom she assumed were his sons, walked by, said goodnight, and headed out of the store. “I assume he’s just kind of lumping me in with the Walmart employees. I’m like, ‘Have a great night,’” Kelly said, while the cashier also bid the man the same.
Forget ‘love at first sight,’ it’s now ‘marry at first sight’
When she finished “yapping” with the cashier, Kelly returned to her car in the parking lot and noticed the man’s car was parked on the opposite side of hers, giving them both a clear view of each other. Right next to Kelly was another woman sitting in her car with her window slightly cracked open, giving the woman access to listen “to this all unfold.”
As Kelly was preparing to leave, she claimed to have heard the man say “marry.” Wondering if he was talking to her, Kelly popped her head back out to ask, “What? Are you talking to me?” Recalling their previous interaction inside the store, Kelly thought the man might have thought he knew her. “I was just confused,” Kelly added.
It’s unclear whether the man heard Kelly’s question, because according to Kelly, one of the young boys with him instead asked her a surprising question: “Do you want to marry him?” An adult would normally apologize for their child asking that question to a stranger, but the man allegedly just echoed the question. “Do you want to marry me?” the man asked. “We can go to the courthouse tomorrow.”
While it’s quite the trend to make surprise proposals these days, like a man proposing to his girlfriend while surrounded by sharks, being proposed to by a stranger in a Walmart parking lot is a bit too unexpected. Naturally, Kelly was left speechless by the proposal, which made her sit down and probably rethink her life.

“Has anything normal ever happened to me? Like ever?” Kelly asked viewers. “I’m perplexed. I was not expecting this. I don’t think anyone’s really expecting to get proposed to in the Walmart parking lot.” Although Kelly was unsure if the man’s question was even serious, she told the stranger it was an “interesting way to ask a girl out” before bidding him goodnight and laughing it off. The woman next to Kelly’s car witnessed the entire interaction and was laughing as well.
Just as Kelly was about to leave, one of the boys came up to her to hand her the man’s contact information: “I roll my window down. What does he hand me? His business card.” At this point, Kelly couldn’t believe the interaction, which she described as “outlandish” and “funny.”
Viewers couldn’t help but poke fun at the incident. One commenter joked, “This reminds me of those verticals I’m addicted to. Also was he a hot CEO perhaps?!” Others praised the man for trying, saying, “you miss 100% of the shots you dont take. his was a hook shot from across the court while running backwards and playing the bagpipes.” Another chimed in with, “The child being the one to hand you the business card like, ‘please marry my dad, please!’”
Despite the seeming rejection, Kelly said the man took it in stride as he didn’t do anything else after, but she has “yet another insane story in my arsenal.”
