Woman from Ohio gets a disturbing inquiry from her friend about her tampon brand. She found an insect after using it: ‘There was nothing on Reddit’
A horrific experience like no other involving one, used tampon.
MJ (@t1mberdoodle) from Ohio came forward on TikTok about her friend’s experience with a tampon. After scouring the internet for similar anecdotes, she’s yet to find somebody who has encountered the same problem.
“Fellow women, today, I come before the council with a harrowing tale,” MJ told TikTok. She added that her friend asked her to use her social media platforms to ask if other women had experienced an incident like hers with their tampon.
“Because we looked it up, and there was nothing on Reddit,” MJ alleged. Her friend, whom she didn’t name, messaged her from the bathroom. MJ overheard her friend and asked if she needed to come over and help, but she refused. She explained that she was on the phone with her doctor. Other people have had strange experiences with tampons. One woman was even reminded of her parents’ awkward secret while learning how to use a tampon.
But unlike that mildly traumatic childhood story, MJ claimed her friend had a serious concern. She explained that when a tampon is used and taken out, it unfolds like a book. MJ said that when her friend took her tampon out after using it, she found a large, dead moth in the center.
“I was not her rock in that moment, because if that had happened to me, I would have lost my mind. This didn’t happen to me, and I was already kind of losing my mind,” MJ commented. Despite the baffling experience, her friend’s doctor allegedly said there was nothing to worry about unless she starts feeling anything unusual.
“We thought about this one because we looked it up, and this has not happened to anybody on the internet, that I can tell,” MJ said. After thinking hard about it, they came up with a theory.
How did an insect get in the tampon?
MJ and her friend theorized that during the cotton processing, the moth must have been left in there. She said, “Cotton grows outside; cotton is a plant. Mobs sometimes land on plants. So, maybe, when they were processing the cotton, it, like, wasn’t processed out. And then, it somehow passed inspection and ended up in a tampon.”
Although they didn’t disclose the brand for fear of litigation, MJ said it was not a small brand. “This is not some small, woo-woo hippie brand, like organic, all-natural,” she added.
She reassured online strangers that her friend is physically well but is still flabbergasted by the experience. MJ continued, “I think it would be good for healing for us to know if this has happened to anyone else.”
Social media commenters weighed in on the odd experience. One TikTok user who claimed to grow cotton said, “As someone who grows cotton and also works in entomology, that moth got in there in the factory. There’s no way that a moth would remain in the cotton through the de-seeding process.”
Another commenter reacted, “I fear I would need to be in the psych ward if this happened to me.” Despite the abundance of comments on TikTok, no other social media user claimed to have experienced finding a moth in a tampon. Some commenters also called it an “original experience” on the internet, while others advised MJ and her friend to document what they found and sue the brand. But MJ and her friend aren’t the only ones with horrors involving tampons. While she didn’t find any moths in her tampons, this woman said she found a used tampon in her newly bought Abercrombie & Fitch jeans.
