She Opened a Drawer She Shouldn’t Have in Her Parents’ Room. The Secret Came Biting Her Back After Her Mom Taught Her How to Use a Tampon.

Children often sneak around the house out of curiosity. But in their little adventures, they stand to uncover secrets that are not meant for their eyes. Meghan Reinertsen (@meghanreinertsen) told TikTok about the time she first tried wearing a tampon. The experience came with a secret that’s been haunting her for more than a decade.
Reinertsen explained that when she was thirteen, her mother was trying to teach her how to use a tampon. She had an upcoming dance competition, and a rule forbade the girls from wearing underwear. Because of that, she couldn’t wear a menstrual pad and had to use a tampon instead.
“I’m convinced at this point that there’s no hole,” Reinertsen recalled. She was struggling to put her tampon in. First periods are not always comfortable to discuss, but some parents would ease the conversation in with a bit of cake. In Reinertsen’s case, her mother was there to guide her throughout the ordeal.
“Mom, I don’t have a hole,” Reinertsen said. After struggling a bit more, she was convinced that her hole just didn’t exist. Her mother was just outside the bathroom door to give her privacy.
“Meghan, I’ve seen the hole. I’ve wiped the hole. Pediatrician has confirmed the hole. You have a hole,” her mother replied. She was exasperated that her daughter couldn’t complete the task despite her instructions. But Meghan insisted that the tampon wouldn’t go in.
“What she does next has haunted me for the past 17 years,” Reinertsen said. It all had to do with a secret she accidentally uncovered about her parents.
She opened a Pandora’s box
“I was a bit of a snoop in my pre-teen years,” Reinertsen said. She felt like her parents were having fun without her, so she went in their bedroom to find out what they’d been up to. When she reached for the top drawer, Reinertsen saw something she should’ve never seen.
“Big mistake on my part when I found a hard copy of a nude of my father,” she revealed. Reinertsen apologized for sharing the experience online. But ever since finding out about what’s in the drawer, Reinertsen said that she’s been scarred.
Her mother used something to help with the tampon
Frustrated by her daughter’s inability to use the tampon, Reinertsen said that she heard a drawer creak. Familiar with the sounds in her house, she assumed that her mother opened the top drawer—the same one where she saw an inappropriately horrific photo of her father.
“I knew specifically which drawer this was,” Reinertsen claimed. She blames herself for knowing the contents of the drawer, saying she shouldn’t have been able to reach in it the first place if it hadn’t been for her curiosity and persistence.
“And my mom comes back in the bathroom with the tampon she’s coated in lube,” Reinertsen said. Because of her snooping, she also knew that the lube came from the forbidden top drawer.
“But I couldn’t reveal that I have been snooping, so I had to put on my greatest poker face,” she recalled. Reinertsen pretended to be curious in front of her mother, asking about the substance she put on the tampon. Her mother didn’t tell her and just told her to put the tampon on.
“I can’t relax at this time,” she said. The knowledge of what her mother put on the tampon made her even more uncomfortable. She started overthinking the lube, tormented by what she’d learned.
“That is the lube that you do stuff with, with my father,” she concluded. In the end, she still wasn’t able to successfully use the tampon. She just needed to feel comfortable, which seemed like an impossible task. Reinertsen said that it wasn’t until she went to her best friend’s house that she was able to use a tampon, with Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing‘ blasting in the background.
