Woman bakes a cake for a 97-year-old friend, then he dies at his party: ‘If there’s any way he could’ve chosen to go out, it would’ve been like this’

Bakedsocal on TikTok posted a video about her 97-year-old friend, Vito. Having turned 97 the week before Halloween, Vito decided that he wanted a Halloween birthday rager. Bakedsocal and the rest of their friend group agreed, but the night would end with Vito making a dramatic exit by dying at his own birthday party.

Before the party, Bakedsocal asked Vito what his secret to a long life was. His answer was not to drink cheap, which inspired Bakedsocal to make Vito a red wine chocolate cake for his party. While it isn’t clear if Vito got to have a piece of cake before passing, the TikTok shows him being presented with the cake. So, he at least got to see Bakedsocal’s creation, which had to be a better experience than this woman had when asking Jersey Mike’s for a birthday discount.

Bakedsocal remembers Vito as the life of the party

On another video from Bakedsocal on TikTok, a commenter found a post about Vito from one of the partygoers. It said that Vito passed away right after they sang Happy Birthday, and that he passed peacefully, surrounded by friends with his favorite music playing. The post said that Vito had health issues that they didn’t know the extent of, but didn’t provide details beyond that.

Usually, the attendees surprise the person having their birthday, as these students did for their principal, but Vito gave his attendees the biggest surprise at his own party.

While showing a time-lapse of her cake creation, Bakedsocal talked about Vito in a voiceover. She said that he taught her to never let age stop her. She continued by saying that Vito always lived his life to the fullest, and she even struggled to keep up with him despite being in her 20s.

Commenters loved Vito from the start

With a story like this, it’s common to find commenters who instantly became invested. The top comment on the video reads, “You can’t introduce us to Vito and take him away in the same story!”

In another comment that Bakedsocal liked and that has over a hundred thousand other likes, somebody said, “Wait, dying at your birthday bash is kinda fire.”

According to Bakedsocal, this is how Vito would’ve wanted to go. Her words in the video are, “If there’s any way he could’ve chosen to go out, it would’ve been like this. He was surrounded by people he loved. We were celebrating his long and full life.”
