Woman allegedly opens stranger’s car to check on kids left alone inside. Then gets into a brawl with the mother in Trader Joe’s parking lot

A mother and a woman got into a heated confrontation in a Trader Joe’s parking lot when the woman allegedly opened a car that had the mother’s kids inside. However, the woman claimed she was checking on the kids’ well-being because they had allegedly been left alone in a hot car while their mother was away.
Oscar Valtierra (@oscarvaltierra22) shared the incident on Instagram with a video showing the altercation between two women at a Trader Joe’s parking lot in Whittier, California. Atlanta Black Star reported that the confrontation began when the mother saw the woman allegedly opening her car door while her kids were inside.
The video shared by Valtierra does not show what happened prior to the women getting physical. Rather, the two women can be seen already engaged in a fight, swinging at each other before the mother subdued the woman by grabbing her hair and pushing her head down.

During the altercation, bystanders and two Trader Joe’s employees attempted to intervene, while the mother accused the woman of opening her car door and threatening her in front of her kids. “You open my car door on my kid, and then you threaten me in front of my kid,” the mother yelled. “You don’t ever do that.”
The woman can be heard repeatedly telling the mother to “let go.” The mother, however, continued berating the woman’s actions. “Do not ever in your life. Do not ever do that,” the mother said. At the same time, an employee tried to calm the mother down, telling her that her kid was crying.
The mother also accused the woman of trying to hit her first before telling her that she shouldn’t take it upon herself to open car doors. In response, the woman told the mother that she was “gonna get sued” when she was released from the mother’s hold.
Comments under the video leaned towards the mother’s side and praised her for protecting her kids. “I HATE SHE WAS ALONE. Everyone trying to calm her like she in the wrong. Get the heifer who came at her,” one comment read. Another added, “Michelle Obama Arms. RESPECT. She will think twice before she open another car door.” A third commented, “Oh snap, she activated mama bear mode!”
As the video gained traction, a user who claimed to be the woman in the video stepped forward to explain her side of the story in the comments section. The woman accused the mother of assaulting her and leaving her two kids, whom she believed were less than a year old, inside a hot car for over 20 minutes.
Woman says she was trying to help the kids inside the car
The woman mentioned Kaitlyn’s Law, which prohibits leaving a child six years old or younger unattended in a motor vehicle. She also claimed that one of the kids had “looked dead,” which prompted the woman and bystanders to try to open the door as police took too long to arrive.
“Hi, it’s me. I’m the woman she assaulted, she left her two babies in the car at Trader Joe’s. More than 20 minutes, there are other witnesses,” the woman said. “The window was warm. The baby looked dead, the doors were unlocked as the mama bears we opened the door FOR AIR and she came attacking older women and me. This is embarrassing for her.”
Following the woman’s comments, some viewers criticized the mother. “Well she should of taken the kids with her. Tf people just trying to look out for the kids and she has the audacity,” a commenter said.
California also has the Good Samaritan law, which legally protects individuals from civil liability if they act in good faith by offering medical or non-medical care at the scene of the emergency. Assembly Bill 2717 specifically exempts individuals from civil and criminal liability for property damage or vehicle trespassing if they rescue a child aged six or younger from inside a vehicle that poses a risk to their well-being.
