Texas woman calls husband during a dispute over community pool with black children, then he shows up armed with an ar-style weapon

An argument at a Texas community pool escalated after a woman called her husband, who arrived carrying an AR-style weapon. Local police arrested the man in connection with the incident, according to authorities.

Cell phone video of the confrontation was posted to TikTok by @dayumvikcole. Her video shows a woman shouting at people during the dispute as viral “saxophones getting louder” audio plays. A man in sunglasses can also be seen in the background holding what appears to be the weapon.

NBC 5 reports that Kevin Brown is the man in the video. Brown was arrested last week in a Dallas suburb after the incident. The firefighter came to the scene of the disturbance after getting the call from his wife. She was upset about the children’s birthday party unfolding at a community pool in Melissa, Texas. Aiden Brown reportedly “spoke to children about propping open the gate to the pool, and an argument ensued between her and the children’s parents.”

Now, Mr. Brown is being charged with “displaying a firearm in a public place as a misdemeanor. Wade Simpson, a father of one of the girls at the party, told the news outlet that the man with a weapon scared the children. Simpson recalled, “All of a sudden I look up, and I see all the kids running frantically, and I see the guy coming with this AR-style weapon.”

The Irving Fire Department employs Mr. Brown. The department delivered a statement after the arrest. They argue, “Community trust is something our profession takes very seriously and will not compromise on.”

Brown is on administrative leave pending this investigation. Mr. Simpson explained what he saw when describing the scene to News 5. The father recalled, “Mr. Brown decided to take an AK or AR-style weapon, walk down to a swimming pool full of babies because his wife got a consequence for bullying children.”

One commenter mentioned, “That lady ruined her husband’s career. Hope he doesn’t get hired on at any other department. Due to his poor judgment of bringing an AR to a kids pool party because his nagging wife couldn’t just walk away and mind her own.” Other observers speculated on the Stanley bottle she’s carrying in the video. A viewer joked, “She got vodka in that Stanley for sure.” 

This argument drew nationwide scrutiny thanks to social media. It’s unclear if authorities will pursue further action against Brown. His administrative leave from the Irving Fire Department is indefinite. Simpson told News 5 that he no longer felt safe in the community. The man argued, “I would say Melissa is not a safe place for a person of color.”
