Wil Wheaton tells Stephen Miller why the late Patrick Stewart would have hated his tribute: ‘He despised you, and everything you stand for’

Clash of ideologies.

Wil Wheaton responded to a social media tribute from Stephen Miller regarding the death of Patrick Stewart by telling the White House staffer to keep the actor’s name out of his mouth. This sharp rebuke appeared on the Threads platform shortly after news of the legendary actor’s passing circulated. Wheaton, who shared the screen with Stewart for years on Star Trek: The Next Generation, made it clear that he felt Miller had no right to honor his former co-star.

According to The Wrap, the conflict started when Miller, who serves as the deputy chief of staff for policy under President Donald Trump, posted his thoughts online. Miller wrote on X, “One of the most impactful actors in the history of film, television and theater.” This brief statement prompted a visceral reaction from Wheaton. The former child star viewed the tribute as hypocritical given the stark contrast between the political ideologies of Miller and the late actor.

Wheaton did not hold back in his response. He wrote, “Stephen Miller, on behalf of Star Trek, and everyone who knew and loved him, keep my Captain’s name out of your f–king Nazi mouth.” He then added, “He despised you, and everything you stand for.” Wheaton clearly felt a deep need to defend the memory of the man he worked with as a teenager.

Wheaton saw the post as an insult to everything Stewart represented

The news of Stewart’s death reached the public on Thursday. He passed away on October 28, at the age of 86. His official Instagram account confirmed that he died at his home in Los Angeles. The statement explained that he had been battling Alzheimer’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. His wife, Sunny Uvall, remained by his side during his final moments.

The official announcement from his family described his passing as a poignant journey. They noted that he was held in the warm embrace of family and friends. According to Far Out Magazine, the room was reportedly filled with live music, prayer, tears, and laughter.

This account captures the profound emotion that Stewart inspired throughout his life. His family noted that they would forever cherish the peaceful reflection on his face, calling it an enduring reminder of his invincible grace.

Stewart’s legacy as a performer remains massive. He gained worldwide fame for his portrayal of Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation. He also left a permanent mark on the film industry as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise. His family statement highlighted his sonorous voice and singular talent. They noted that he explored the human condition in all its poetic complexity. He brought hope to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and science fiction fans alike.

Wheaton also posted his own tribute shortly after the news broke

Wheaton kept his message brief but moving. He shared a picture of the two of them, including a still from their time on Star Trek when Wheaton was just a boy. He simply wrote, “Godspeed, Captain.”

Other figures in the entertainment world also shared their thoughts on the loss. Sir Ian McKellen, a lifelong friend of Stewart, offered a touching reflection on Instagram. McKellen officiated Stewart’s wedding to Sunny Uvall in 2013. He described his friend as a man defined by his upbringing in Yorkshire.

McKellen wrote, “Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end.” He continued, “You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt.”

McKellen noted that Stewart was a man who had no patience for half-truths or the avoidance of big issues. He concluded by saying that Stewart wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.

The reaction from Wheaton highlights the intense feelings surrounding public figures who hold polarized political views. A representative for the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the situation.
