Trump keeps praising the physique of male GOP politicians. Then Vance reveals what he is willing to do to get the president’s attention
‘The president’s never said that about me.’

Donald Trump has been busy on the campaign trail lately, and he is not just talking about policy. He has spent a good portion of his recent rallies focusing on the physiques of several male GOP politicians. This unusual trend has drawn plenty of attention from the media and the public. Vice President J.D. Vance addressed the situation during a Fox News town hall with Jesse Watters on October 29, 2026. He said he had heard the comments and even joked about his own standing in the president’s eyes.
According to The Hill, when Watters asked why the president keeps complimenting the backside of Senator Jon Husted, Vance laughed off the question. He claimed that the president is a comedian at heart. Vance said, “Well, first of all, I’m jealous. The president’s never said that about me.” He added, “Get back in the gym maybe and draw that particular piece of praise.” He told the audience that he views these comments as a sign that the president does not take himself too seriously.
This is not the first time Vance has mentioned the topic. He also brought it up during a rally at the Sharonville Convention Center Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. He told the crowd, “Now, this is a tough act to follow, ladies and gentlemen, because what could I possibly say about Jon Husted that Donald J. Trump has not already said? Don’t worry, I’m not talking about Jon Huston’s a–. I’m not talking about it.”
The comments about Husted reportedly started during a rally in Youngstown, Ohio
On October 12, Trump learned that the senator had played college football and decided to share his observations with the crowd. “I don’t do this with men very often. I started examining [Husted’s] body because I didn’t know he was a great athlete, and I looked, and I watched up and down,” the president said, according to Reality Tea. He continued, “I looked at his a–, and I looked at the whole, and then I looked at his hands. Look at his hands. He’s got these like claws.”
Since then, the president has brought up Husted’s physique at multiple events. During a rally in Texas, he claimed, “I made the mistake of saying that I started off by studying his a–.” He also told a crowd in North Carolina, “His a– is like, it’s like a pile of muscle.”
The frequency of these remarks has turned into a recurring theme for the president during his October campaign events. He has also shouted out other GOP lawmakers, including Senator Tim Sheehy from Montana and Senator Bill Hagerty from Tennessee.
However, not every politician gets the same treatment
The president has been selective with his praise. For example, at a midterm convention in Dallas, he mentioned state Attorney General Ken Paxton. Trump said that Paxton “may not be the best-looking guy I’ve ever seen.” When Watters asked Vance about this during the interview, the vice president simply replied, “I’m sure Paxton’s doing great.”
The focus on Husted is not just about his appearance. Vance used the attention to pivot to the upcoming election in Ohio. He described Husted’s opponent, former Senator Sherrod Brown, as a “lunatic.”
Vance told the crowd, “Jon Husted, in addition to his very nice body, is more importantly going to make a much better senator for the people of the United States of America than the lunatic he’s running against.” Current data from the nonpartisan election forecaster Decision Desk HQ shows Brown holding a 55% chance to win the race.
The president has also commented on women’s bodies
He also made a note of rapper Nicki Minaj during a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday, October 25. The president said, “By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful a– before – Nicki Minaj. That’s hard to miss. That – stand up! That’s hard to miss.”
It seems the president enjoys shaking things up with these remarks. Whether these comments help or hurt the candidates remains to be seen. Vance seems to think it is just a sign of the president’s personality. He clearly values the ability to keep things light during a high-stakes campaign. While the vice president might be joking about his own gym routine, he is keeping his focus on the goal of winning the Senate seat in Ohio.
