Umbrella Academy Sparrow Team

What Is The Sparrow Academy in ‘The Umbrella Academy’? The Sparrows, Explained.

Blobs and cubes and birds.

With a little over a month until The Umbrella Academy season three release, Netflix finally took pity on us and released a full-length trailer. The Hargreeves siblings are back for a whole adventure where they try to stop a third apocalypse that they inadvertently caused. Will these kids ever catch a break?

I had to watch the trailer a few times to see anyone other than Klaus, but all the familiar siblings were present and accounted for. So were seven new alternate timeline brothers, sisters, and a floating cube. After much speculation since the end of season two, we now have new information on the mysterious Sparrow Academy.

A Crew of Sparrows

The original siblings of Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Number 5, Ben, and Viktor make up the Umbrella Academy—so named for the umbrella company their adopted father owned. When the Umbrellas arrived in an alternate timeline in the last episode of season two, they met a group of additional siblings who called themselves the Sparrow Academy.

It appears Reginald Hargreeves adopted a group of seven special babies in every timeline. However, most of the original crew is absent from this alternate timeline lineup. Only one Sparrow has a familiar face. The Umbrellas’ double-dead sibling, Ben, is alive and well (and a dickhead) in this timeline. His powers seem to be the same interdimensional tentacles as the regular timeline Ben.

The rest of the formidable (and a little confusing) new siblings are Marcus, Fei, Alphonso, Sloane, Jayme, and Christopher. Most of the family looks pretty average, except for Alphonso, who has heavy scarring, and Christopher, a floating cube. I am curious to see what the floating cube looked like as a baby. I have so many questions. I need more of my favorite dysfunctional siblings, and I need more of Fei using her ability to summon a murder of crows. Why didn’t I get that power? The June 22 premier date can’t come soon enough.
