Trump’s push to turn New Mexico into New America sparks a comedy roast, and Jimmy Fallon has a few unsettling ideas for the rest of the country
Why stop at one?

Donald Trump has set his sights on the map of the United States, specifically targeting New Mexico for a rebranding effort that has left the public and late-night hosts like Jimmy Fallon buzzing. According to The Wrap, during Labor Day weekend, the president shared an image on social media that depicted him striking out New Mexico on a map and replacing the name with New America.
This move follows his recent executive order that officially renamed Lake Ontario to Lake America. Trump’s decision to potentially rename a state has sparked a wave of commentary.
The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon was quick to weigh in on the implications during his monologue on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Fallon presented a mock advertisement from the president’s camp to illustrate how this trend might continue across the country. Using his Trump impression, the host outlined a vision for a renamed union that includes New Trumpshire, Melanialand for Maryland, and Kid-Rocky for Kentucky.
The list of suggestions did not stop there
Fallon continued by proposing Ala-I don’t like O-bama for Alabama and Ella Langley Land for Texas. He also offered up Large Soda and a McChicken for Minnesota and Ne-ballroom for Nebraska. Then he proposed North America for North Carolina and South America for South Carolina. He rounded up the list with North America 2 for North Dakota, South America 2: the Way of Water for South Dakota, and The Only Island I’ve Ever Been To for Rhode Island.
Beyond the absurdity of the names, Fallon noted that the attempt to rebrand New Mexico as New America might have backfired. He quipped that most people heard the new name and were relieved, feeling that the current version of the country is not that good.
Fallon then trained his guns on the president’s shifting hair color
Trump’s hair color seems to have undergone several dramatic changes throughout the summer. The Daily Beast reported that the 80-year-old president debuted a noticeably darker hairstyle while stepping off Air Force One in New Jersey. Fallon deadpanned that this specific look might be the result of hiring the Reflecting Pool people to dye the president’s hair.
This comment referenced the months-long closure of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The landmark has been plagued by a slime green algal bloom following a $16 million repair project initiated by the president.
To further emphasize the situation, Fallon aired a mock commercial for a product called ‘Touch of Cray.’ According to the bit, this hair dye provides more than just a new shade. It supposedly grants the user all the hallmarks of the president’s current behavior, including the habit of renaming states, the urge to put one’s face on every coin, the tendency to flirt with assistants, and the inclination to host a fistfight on a front lawn.
The president’s hair has indeed been a subject of intense public observation
The color shifted tones five times in a single week during August, ranging from silvery white to strawberry blond. These frequent changes led many observers to speculate about the nature of his hair, with some questioning if he wears a wig, a claim the president has denied. The darker look in New Jersey only added fuel to the fire.
Journalists and media personalities took to X to discuss the situation, with Aaron Rupar asking what was going on with the president’s hair. Other groups, including Republicans against Trump, also shared photos of the president and mocked the appearance of his hair.
Jimmy Kimmel also joined the chorus of late-night commentary, observing that the president’s head is changing colors just like the leaves as the seasons shift. Kimmel questioned if it is possible to experience a midlife crisis at 80 years old, comparing the president to a real-life version of Benjamin Button. He referred to the president as our own little Benjamin Glutton while noting that the leader appears to be aging in reverse.
Whether it is the naming of states or the color of his hair, the president’s recent activities are providing plenty of material for those watching his tenure closely. The disconnect between these cosmetic and geographical adjustments and the expectations of the public remains a central point of discussion for critics and comedy hosts alike.
It is clear that every change, no matter how small or strange, is being tracked by those who find the current political landscape to be a source of constant, if sometimes baffling, entertainment.
