Elon Musk Will Not Let His Gripe With the Odyssey Go

Do not put it in the paper that Elon Musk is still mad about The Odyssey. He joins a host of conservative posters going through it after the movie’s success.

Someone made a version of one of The Odyssey’s scenes using Musk’s AI grok engine. The caught the attention of the SpaceX figurehead. And, he promptly got to work making an outrageous claim.

Since the casting of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey became public, the Trillionaire has been upset about this film for one reason or another. He’s been arguing that his beef lies with historical accuracy. But, some social media observers don’t necessarily agree.

Musk wrote, “Before this year ends, grok Imagine will make a full length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer.”

Honestly, maybe he will make his AI version of the classic tale. But, you probably shouldn’t hold your breath about that entry becoming the definitive version of this story. After all, Musk has been dabbling with similar concepts on social media for a while now. And, the results haven’t exactly set the world on fire. (Well, hmm…. Kind of?)

Elon Musk Wants AI Version of The Odyssey

Long before there was talk of an AI version of Christopher Nolan’s movie, there was chatter about Lupita Nyong’o’s casting as Helen of Troy. In addition, the reveal of Eliot Page being in the film also had these posters raging.

Matt Walsh seemed absolutely flabbergasted that anyone could think that this actress could be the face of a mythical woman said to be the most beautiful on the entire planet. Musk would agree with that sentiment on social media. This only dumped gasoline onto an already raging fire.

 “Not one person on the planet actually thinks that Lupita Nyong’o is ‘the most beautiful woman in the world,’” Walsh previously wrote on X. “But Christopher Nolan knows that he would be called racist if he gave ‘the most beautiful woman’ role to a white woman. Nolan is technically talented but a coward. Too afraid to do anything that even slightly challenges the spirit of the age.” 

How Good Is The Film?

 If you’re wondering how good the Odyssey really is, we’ve got an answer for you. The Mary Sue’s Leah Thomas reviewed Christopher Nolan’s master work for the site. She enjoyed the epic grand scale and the ways the director managed to bring down such a lofty narrative to a human level.

In the end, a movie is more than its casting decisions. A lesson that Nolan knows quite well. Maybe, our friends posting on social media will learn something similar from going to see one of the packed showings for this film.

“Nolan’s more grandiose ideas about war, men, and history come towards the end of the film,” Thomas argued. “If you spent the summer of 2023 mainlining Oppenheimer, you likely won’t be surprised by the thesis. Odysseus describes the siege of Troy as ‘ten years of rage pouring into that city in one night.’ It’s a hell of a nugget to end a film on, and of course, as is Nolan and Homer’s way, takes us back to the beginning.”
