The Dragon Prince season 4 release window

So far, an exact release date for The Dragon Prince season 4 has not been provided. However, during the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, Netflix unveiled a first look at The Dragon Prince‘s 4th season. The official clip confirms that the season is coming to Netflix in November of 2022, but it remains to be seen what exact day it will land on.

The Dragon Prince season 4 title

Season 4 of The Dragon Prince signifies a new arc in the series. This is part of the reason why there was 3-year gap between season 3 and season 4, as Netflix plots out the future of The Dragon Prince saga. As a result, the series will be titled The Dragon Prince: Mystery of Aaravos, as of its 4th season.

The name change signifies a shifting focus on the mysterious character, Aaravos (Erk Todd Dellums). Aaravos is an imprisoned elf mage whom King Harrow’s advisor, Viren (Jason Simpson), made a secret alliance with. He is a master of dark magic who communicates to Viren via a magic mirror and a caterpillar-like creature. However, big changes are coming soon to his character, as season 3 concluded with his caterpillar entering metamorphosis.

The Dragon Prince season 4 clip and time skip

On July 21st, 2022, Netflix released an official clip of The Dragon Prince season 4. The clip is titled “Resurrection” and picks up right where The Dragon Prince season 3 left off. Viren and his army were defeated at the end of season 3 and Viren was killed in a fall. However, his daughter, Claudia (Racquel Belmonte) set out to revive him. The season 4 clip sees the aftermath of his revival. However, it also drops a startling reveal—it took 2 years for Viren to be fully revived.

Hence, The Dragon Prince season 4 starts off with a 2-year time jump. In the clip, we see that Aaravos’s metamorphosis seems to be nearing completion. We also get a glimpse of an older Callum, who has changed quite noticeably, and even has a new haircut. It is also revealed that Callum has taken on the position of the king’s High Mage. The Dragon Prince season 4 teaser trailer

Netflix released The Dragon Prince‘s first official season 4 teaser trailer on September 22, 2022. Check out the trailer below:

The teaser allows us to see more of the time skip playing out, as it begins with Ezran being reunited with Zym. The two reveal that they haven’t seen each other for 2 years. However, there is evidence that this isn’t exactly a light-hearted reunion. The stakes seem higher than ever as the teaser promises a return to magic, and a return to “the fight.” It also sees Callum sadly holding Rayla’s sword, making some fans speculate that something may have happened to her on her mission to find Viren. The teaser ends with Aaravos’ ominous warning, “My return to his world is inevitable.”

The Dragon Prince season 4 plot

A two-year time jump means that quite a lot has changed in The Dragon Prince. Not only is Viren revived and Callum a Mage, but young Ezran has assumed the throne and now reigns as the King of Katolis. Rayla though, is still gone, having departed a year before the events of season 4 on a secret mission to find Viren, whom she suspects is still living. Meanwhile, the Sunfire elves are rising up, seeking to rebuild their people and kingdom. A new type of Elf, the Earthblood elves, will also be appearing in The Dragon Prince season 4 and one is in a romantic relationship with Claudia.

However, Claudia’s woes aren’t over, as the major storyline of season 4 is Aaravos’ dark plans and strategies coming together in a very noticeable way. The fact is, Viren’s revival is not final. Aaravos helped Claudia bring Viren back, but he will only have 30-days to live unless Aaravos gets his payment. His demand is that Claudia and Viren must find his unknown prison and free him before the 30 days are up. As Ezran and the elves rebuild their respective kingdom, it will fall on Callum and Rayla to ultimately stop Viren and Claudia, and prevent Aaravos from being freed.
