As you know, we're thrilled about the long-awaited return of The Venture Bros. on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim this weekend! To celebrate, I had the chance to chat with creator Jackson Publick in an interview exclusively for TMS about what we can expect from Season Six, what continually draws him to these crazy characters, and what took them so dang long!

News on The Venture Bros. Season Five, Including a Guesstimate on a Premiere!

Vital Information for Your Everyday Life

By the shaking, jumping ghost of Jehosaphat! There is news about the next season of The Venture Bros.! While it's a bit vague and containing no exact dates, Jackson Publick provided some straight-from-the-creator's mouth information (to The Mantis-Eye Experiment) concerning the return of the show that started as a spoof and then formed its own universe. Part of this news: when the show will (possibly) be making its triumphant return to Adult Swim. Holy crap, it's really happening, even if we can't see it!

The Venture Bros. Gives Us a Holiday Present, With This Year's Holiday Song

When we're all awaiting this year's Doctor Who Christmas special, some of our favorite media dorks, Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer have provided us with a little holiday spirit, in the form of this year's The Venture Bros. holiday song. It features our absolute favorite cartoon couple, The Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend, having a domestic dispute. It's a bit NSFW, so you probably can't pass this off as a great song for the office holiday party. Either way, you can listen to and download it here.

NYCC: The Venture Bros. Panel Was Awesome, Here Are Some Details

Fangasm

I was lucky enough to get a great seat in the IGN Theater yesterday at New York Comic Con, and yes, I'm bragging about it. Because I waited on the super long line to get into the DC Animated Films panel (more on that here), which was excellent, but I mostly didn't want to risk getting stuck in a bad seat for The Venture Bros. panel featuring its creators, Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick. Before you join us after the jump for any possible spoilers or new plot details, be aware: there are none. The fifth season is currently being written, with four scripts completed. However, if you have ever listened to the commentary on the DVDs, I can tell you that this panel was exactly like that: lots of hilarious digression, lots of joking, lots of familiar character voices, and almost nothing about the show itself. Okay, there was some information about the upcoming season ... but not much. That said, this panel made me want to write an honest-to-goodness, pen-on-paper fan letter to Doc and Jackson because it was so, so funny.

Real-Life Superhero Phoenix Jones Is Peeing Blood Now

A Lesson in Humility

GQ's Jon Ronson reported on a recent ride-along with real-life superhero Phoenix Jones and provided us all a lengthy, detailed exposé about the man in the mask who roams Seattle fighting crime. It's actually a pretty incredible story and reveals more about Mr. Jones than we've ever read before. But we couldn't help noticing that conversations that occur in the RLSH community sound like they've been taken straight out of The Venture Bros.

Venture Bros. Duo Asked About New Season; Talk Exclusively About Slash Fanfiction

This Makes Sense

io9 interviewed Jackson Publick (Christopher McCulloch) and (Eric A.) "Doc" Hammer intending, presumably, to wring details about the upcoming new season of The Venture Bros. out of them, and here's what they found out:

What can we expect from the VB short that's coming out this summer? Doc Hammer: We can't really say that much about it, but it's a documentary of sorts.
And then they spent the rest of the interview talking about the duo's views on slash fanfiction about themselves and their characters. No, really, it's kind of awesome.

The Venture Brothers Renewed and Then Some!

Fangasm

Every once in a while, you get to share joy with people, and today is one of those days. Because today, it was announced that not only was Adult Swim's The Venture Brothers being renewed for a sixth season (!!), but there was also going to be an additional 11-minute short (!!) AND a full-length, 60- or 90-minute long-form special (!!!!)!!! Here is the story from James Plafke at Geekosystem:

This is certainly good news, as more Venture Bros. is definitely better than less, and we can only barely begin to imagine what's in store for the most intricate universe on television. Will 21 finally embrace his good guy destiny? Is Molotov really gone? Will Hank and Dean embrace their seemingly mapped-out fate in which they grow up to be the new Brock and Rusty? Will we all still miss 24? How many more times will they say "sphinx?" Thankfully, we'll have at least two more years and a couple of specials to find out.

Venture Bros. Season 5 Announced + Annual Venture Christmas Song Released! It’s a Christmas Miracle!

Adult Swim geek opus The Venture Bros. is coming back for a fifth season! Christopher McCulloch, otherwise known as Jackson Publick, gave Venture fans the best Christmas present of all last night on his blog:

P.S. One last Christmas gift: I promised "news" the last time I was here. And though I'm not at liberty to disclose the full details just yet, I am happy to at least be able to tell you that we were not lying in the end credits of our season finale: The Venture Bros. will indeed return. More on that later... Happy Holidays!

To go along with this wonderful news, the Venture team released their annual Christmas song, "Fan Club Christmas Album 2010," performed by Hank and Dermott's (awful-but-hilarious) band, Shallow Gravy.
