Sean Duffy wants to add gyms to airports, because that’s important

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is at it again. As part of his new civility campaign, which was launched weeks ago, Duffy has offered suggestions encouraging travelers to be more courteous and considerate of others. Just recently, he slammed passengers who show up to airports in their pajamas and put their feet up on the chair in front of them.

On Monday, speaking at Reagan International Airport in Arlington, Virginia, Duffy and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. brought out their most recent suggestion for ways to improve airports for busy, oftentimes stressed passengers: Gyms?

Duffy on what he's doing to improve the airport experience for travelers: "Maybe I want a workout area where people might get some blood flowing doing some pull ups or step ups in the airport."

Because I know that’s what I need before a long flight. Not more affordable food, or comfier places to sit that aren’t hidden behind exclusive membership fees, but a place to pump some iron before hopping on a pressurized tube with hundreds of strangers, letting your fresh workout scent marinate throughout the cabin.

Then, because of course it has to get weirder, Duffy and RFK Jr., along with fitness guru Dr. Paul Saladino, all had an impromptu pull-up contest, which is completely normal and not at all absolutely wild to have at an official event that is touting a $1 billion investment to make airports across the country more family-friendly, conducive to good health, and better for breastfeeding.

When asked how he’d tackle those costly airport restaurants and stores, Duffy didn’t have an answer. Why would he?

“It’s interesting. It’s market demand and supply. They have airports pretty tightly contained; there’s not a lot of options. I don’t have a plan to reduce costs. What I am trying to do is provide healthier options for people.”

Undoubtedly, those healthier options will be even costlier than what is already offered.
