Louis and Lestat Fight Like the Married Couple They Are

Sometimes, you watch two characters on screen and long for them to figure it out. With Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) and Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid), we all know that they’re forever married whether they like it or not. Case in point? Episode 2 of The Vampire Lestat titled “Toledo.”
The now infamous scene has been featured in the promo for the series since the beginning with Lestat yelling “I bet” when Louis brings up a sarcastic “fact” about Armand (Assad Zaman). But nothing would have prepared me for how glorious it would be watching these two go back and forth with each other. They really are just a married couple.
In the context of Interview With the Vampire, we are essentially hearing Louis tell Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) about his divorce. He talks about falling in love, raising their vampire daughter Claudia (Bailey Bass and Delainey Hayles) together, and eventually what Louis and Claudia did to get away from Lestat. With The Vampire Lestat, we’re seeing the aftermath. And more importantly, how these two very clearly still love each other.
There is a lot aired out in their litigation scene. Lestat’s anger over the book that Daniel published without Louis’ consent is made very clear. And we even see how deep that anger runs in him. Like bringing up how Armand manipulated Louis. “I’m happy to discuss Armand if you think that will help you, Lestat,” Louis says before Lestat cuts him off and keeps poking the bear.
The back and forth is hilarious to watch because Anderson and Reid are clearly having fun with it. But more than that, it shows how the two of them are far from over the other.
This married couple is going to bicker

Throughout their love story, we have seen Louis’ side of Lestat’s anger. Watching Lestat’s play out in this scene paints a less black and white version of these characters. For all of Lestat’s dramatic flairs and lashings, Louis also knows how to hold his own in a fight with him. They know how to press the other’s buttons and it shows.
Even when they’re at odds, I do think these two are still married to each other. So far in the Vampire Lestat, they haven’t had many “loving” moments. We saw what they were like prior to the book coming out and Lestat’s retelling of Louis’ meeting with Daniel paints a clear picture. He was hurt by the book and it hurt the love they were rebuilding.
But if this litigation scene is anything to go off of, Louis and Lestat are far from done with each other. In fact, it seems as if they’re just getting started.
