‘The Country is Watching’: Gavin Newsom Urges Trump to Target Him but Leave His Family Out of His Scavenger Hunt of the Newsoms

Family first

During Donald Trump’s second term as president, California Governor Gavin Newsom has become one of his most vocal critics. Since Trump took office last year, Newsom has seized every chance to criticize him. This has led to an ongoing back-and-forth between the two politicians, with their mudslinging continuing to this day. However, this time, Newsom is requesting a pause or redirection in their political rivalry, claiming that Trump is now targeting his family.

On June 15, 2026, Gavin Newsom posted a video on his X (formerly Twitter) profile, accusing Donald Trump of weaponizing the US Department of Justice against him and his family. He stated that Trump had instructed the DOJ to investigate him and his family, and argued that the motivation behind this was Trump’s personal vendetta against Newsom, who has repeatedly challenged him.

Newsom accuses Trump of weaponizing the DOJ

As previously mentioned, on June 15, 2026, Gavin Newsom posted a video on his X account in which he urged Donald Trump to keep his family out of their political rivalry. In the opening remarks of the roughly five-minute video, Newsom says, “In recent days, federal agents have knocked on the doors of family friends and former employees, not because they found a crime, but because they are simply trying to find one.” He continued, pointing out that agents have been demanding records while ignoring the grand jury process.

Newsom also shared his perspective on what he believes is the main reason behind Trump taking such extreme actions. He said that Trump wasn’t targeting him because of his “mean tweets” but because he was thinking about running for President. He also mentioned that Trump hates that he constantly calls him out, emphasizing that he believes “he is simply the most corrupt President in American history.”

Newsom urges Trump to leave his family out of their rivalry

In the same video he uploaded to his X profile on Monday, Gavin Newsom emphasized that, besides him, the Department of Justice was targeting his wife, Siebel Newsom, at Donald Trump’s orders. Highlighting her efforts for the upliftment of women and the betterment of children over the years, Newsom strongly opposed Trump’s attempts to go after his wife and family and instead urged him to keep the rivalry between them separate.

He said, “You can subpoena my records. You can investigate me. You can harass me. Put my name on every and any enemy’s list you have, but leave my wife and family out of your personal vendetta.”
