Netflix hosted Kevin Hart’s roast over the weekend and Pete Davidson basically destroyed a prominent MAGA comedian during the festivities.

Los Angeles was buzzing about the Netflix Is A Joke Festival the last few days. And, the Roast of Kevin Hart was the main event of a packed weekend. But, coming out of the massive show, people are talking about Pete Davidson taking the time to dismantle Tony Hinchcliffe.

Comedy fans and some of the general public know Hinchcliffe as the guy who made the jokes about Puerto Rico during the Madison Square Garden rally for Donald Trump in late 2024. His comments came under heavy fire for their racism at the time.

But, for the former Saturday Night Live star, this was a quick break from his normal routine to send that warning shot over to Hinchcliffe. Davidson wasn’t the only comedian present to clapback at the controversial podcast host either. Chelsea Handler got in there too for good measure, and Sheryl Underwood took a justified swipe at Hinchcliffe as well.

There will undoubtedly be some pearl-clutching at the content of Davidson’s joke here. (It involves Charlie Kirk and you know how mainstream media gets about that whole debacle.) But, it’s clear Hinchcliffe is on thin ice with a lot of his peers. It’s about time that people began to push back harder on bullies when they see them.

Davidson came out of the gates swinging. He told the crowd, “Tony Hinchcliffe’s here looking like both a child molester and the doll they give the child to show where he touched them.”

“Tony reminds me of Charlie Kirk, and that’s he’s definitely been on camera letting a guy unload in his throat,” Davidson said. “Oh you don’t know me? yeah ‘Kill Tony.’ Please someone f****** ‘Kill Tony.’ Tony, nothing you say tonight will hurt my feelings. I was in a beef with Kanye so I’ve taken shots from better gay Nazis.”

Clearly, the SNL alum didn’t forget about the guest of honor either. His joke about Kevin Hart was brutal, but not quite with the venom he had for Hinchcliffe. Davidson asked, “What can you say about Kevin Hart that hasn’t already been yelled out by a guy with Tourette’s at the BAFTAs?”

Devastating, but also with a tinge of humor about the thorny situation that Delroy Lindo and Ryan Coogler found themselves in earlier this year!

Comedy beginning to show signs of life

I have to say, I was wondering what the point of a roast to Kevin Hart would be in this day and age. But, it appears we soft launched a stealth roast of Tony Hinchcliffe and people are going to be thrilled to see some of that.

Comedy on Netflix is a massive entity, and they’ve made “anything goes” a big part of their brand. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone watching at home that there is some controversy bubbling around their big centerpiece event of the weekend

Hinchcliffe and other agitator comedians still seem to miss the fact that they still work in a business. Fashioning this outsider persona works down in Austin when you’re around the podcast microphones with the boys. But, when you have to stand across from someone and say wild things, you can’t be surprised when they bite back.

Or, when people watching at home aren’t quite as charmed by the Internet-modeled edgelord material that does numbers over on Spotify or Apple Podcasts these days. It’s a delicate balance. But, hey look, at least Netflix got some actual comedy on-stage this weekend instead of just punching down for 2 hours!
