Oldest of 11 tries to reconnect with siblings still living with isolating parents as they seek protection orders to stop her. She brings clip to court

A woman who says she and her 10 siblings grew up isolated from the outside world has spent years trying to reconnect with them. Her parents apparently responded with a more official barrier: civil protection orders against her and her boyfriend.

TikTok creator @audreyinreallife, who goes by Audrey, said she and one of her brothers left their parents’ home in 2020. As the oldest of 11, she said she has since gotten “creative” in her attempts to contact the nine younger siblings who remained there, including four who are now adults. 

The latest chapter began after a detective visited her parents’ home on June 2 to check on those four adult siblings following concerns about their situation. Audrey said she had spoken to the same detective a year earlier but had nothing to do with the June visit. Soon after, however, she and her boyfriend were served with separate civil protection orders filed by her father. 

Four siblings get subpoenas instead

Audrey and her boyfriend took the filings to an attorney, who agreed to represent them. Her next move ensured the family dispute would not remain entirely between her and her parents. Other family disputes have recently gone viral after viewers questioned how far parents should go to control their children’s independence.

Audrey subpoenaed her four adult siblings because, according to her, the incidents her father described in his filing actually concerned attempts to contact them. She claimed her parents objected to the subpoenas and even tried to have them dropped, but the siblings ultimately appeared at the first hearing.

Her father arrived without an attorney and initially chose to represent himself. Audrey said the judge explained what her father would need to prove to obtain the protection orders. When asked whether he had brought witnesses, her father instead cited material already included in his filing.

That was apparently where his plan hit a procedural wall. Audrey recalled the judge explaining that the filing had gotten the case into court, but her father would still need to prove his claims at the hearing. He then requested an attorney and a two-week continuance.

Audrey says her videos told a different story

Ahead of the rescheduled hearing, Audrey subpoenaed another witness: her mother. She believed her mother had witnessed one of the encounters described in her father’s filing and could speak to what actually happened. The second courtroom showdown never arrived. Audrey said the protection orders were dropped before the hearing, meaning neither her mother nor siblings ultimately had to testify.

That did not mean she had arrived empty-handed. Audrey said she and her attorney had video footage of every interaction her father cited in the protection-order filing, and she claimed the recordings showed those encounters happening “very differently” from how they had been described. Audrey isn’t the only creator to share how growing up with a controlling parent eventually led to separation, as one woman recalls being kicked out of the house at 14 due to an Apple watch. 

Her account has since drawn 2.4 million views, with commenters praising her preparation and questioning the lengths her parents allegedly went to prevent contact with her siblings. For Audrey, losing the chance to present her evidence in court was almost disappointing. Still, she got the result she and her attorney had prepared for without needing to play a single video: the protection orders were dropped. Audrey may not have gotten to play the videos, but an attorney, several family subpoenas, and a folder of footage certainly put a new spin on coming prepared for family drama.
