Netflix’s Newish Sci-Fi Series, Travelers, Is Like Assassin’s Creed Meets Legends of Tomorrow

Plus Eric McCormack.

Netflix just released the trailer for their new(ish) sci-fi series, Travelers, and there’s something oddly familiar about it. I say newish because, while it’s about to premiere on the digital streaming service, it already began airing episodes in October on Showcase in Canada. Set a few hundred years from now, the show centers on a the last surviving humans who have the ability to send their consciousness through time.

They use it to assume the lives of random people in the 21st century at the exact moment that they die. Their mission? To save humanity from its horrible fate, of course!

At first, this seemed like a darker version of Legends of Tomorrow. After thinking it over, however, this now strikes me as a weird mashup of Legends of Tomorrow and Assassin’s Creed. Sci-fi really loves its misfit group of time travelers. Still, the premise is intriguing enough to warrant a watch, and I’ll be damned if I pass up an opportunity to watch Eric McCormack in a leading role.

Season one, which will consist of 10 45-minute episodes, premieres on Netflix on December 23.
