Disgraced Star Wars Actress Set to Get Pummeled By Ronda Rhousey

Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano are stepping into an octagon for a wild fight. Netflix announced that the former UFC Champion and the MMA fighter will do battle later this year.
Fight fans can get ready for the spectacle on May 16. This will be Netflix’s first-ever live MMA contest and anticipation is there. Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano will bring in a ton of eyeballs after the last few Paul brothers boxing spectacles and the growing presence of Netflix in the live-sports arena. (Remember a month ago when everyone was watching one man scale the side of a skyscraper on the platform? Because the streamer is thinking you do!)
Rousey was a legitimate sensation on the UFC circuit. Boasting a 12-2 Record as a fighter, she’ll step in against what the company is billing as an MMA pioneer. Carano actually went 7-1 according to TUDUM. For a lot of younger fans though, it’s pretty funny to see a woman who most people recognize as a character from The Mandalorian on Disney+ plus locking up with a former WWE superstar. Since, Carano has been known for being fired from the series and attempting to sue her way back into the role of Cara Dune.
(We cannot stress how much media attention Rousey was garnering during her reign atop the sport. She was like Conor McGregor, but slightly less problematic!) Netflix is ready for big things.
“After the record-breaking success in boxing, we wanted our first MMA event to be truly legendary,” Gabe Spitzer, Netflix VP of Sports told TUDM. “These are more than just athletes — they are generational stars, and having them headline our MMA debut at the Intuit Dome is a defining moment for us.”
When do Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano fight?
Netflix presents Rousey vs. Carano on May 16. The fight will be broadcast live on the streaming platform from the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California. All plans on Netflix, including the ever-important free tier, will have access to the big MMA spectacle. Tickets to be there in the flesh are on-sale now.
Five 5-minute rounds will determine the victor. Unified Rules of MMA are in effect for this contest. Each competitor is allowed to use boxing, wrestling, karate, jiujitsu, judo, and more to their advantage to knock-out, submit, or triumph over their opponent via a judge’s decision. It’s important to note that Carano and Rousey will fight at 145 pounds. That’s featherweight for people who aren’t fight fans by the way.
Rousey and Carano are ready to throw down
With the primacy of live sports becoming further and further entrenched in global pop culture, this is going to be a big production. Both Ronda Rousey and Carano have been waiting to unveil this card on the world. Of course, other names in MMA have to be peeking over the fence as well. It’s no secret the Jake Paul has used the sport of boxing to enrich himself to untold ends. If you’re a fighter that is on the outs with TKO and UFC, maybe Netflix just created a path to another payday?
Rousey told TUDUM, “Been waiting to announce this. Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest superfight in women’s combat sport history, and we’re partnering with the fighter-first promoter, MVP, as well as the baddest streamer on the planet, Netflix. This is for all MMA fans past, present, and future.”
Carano is chirping too. “Ronda came to me and said there is only one person she would make a comeback for, and it’s been her dream to make this fight happen between us.”
