‘I felt threatened’: Massachusetts McDonald’s worker calls police on DoorDash driver. Then she gets suspended

She called police because she felt threatened, but says she was the one who faced consequences.

A Massachusetts McDonald’s employee says she called police after a DoorDash driver refused to leave without a customer’s order and allegedly began threatening her. Several people eventually became involved in the argument, but the employee says she was the one who ended up suspended.

In an October 7 Facebook post, the employee, who goes by Melody, said the trouble started when the driver repeatedly honked her horn outside the McDonald’s in Fall River, Massachusetts. Melody claims the driver began yelling and making threats, leaving her concerned enough to contact police.

Melody shared recordings of the argument, screenshots of messages, and security footage from the restaurant’s drive-thru. She has since made additional allegations against management, including accusing a manager of sending inappropriate sexual messages.

The driver said McDonald’s couldn’t refuse her the order

Melody refused to hand over the DoorDash order, but the driver insisted she couldn’t deny the pickup. Rather than cancel the delivery, the driver continued asking for the customer’s food.

“I don’t care because it’s not my order, babe,” the driver says in one recording. “You can’t refuse me service. It’s a DoorDash order.” She also accused employees of stealing the food, and the argument turned to who had been swearing at whom.

Another recording captures several people shouting over one another before a man tries to calm everyone down. In separate security footage, two employees are standing near the drive-thru window when a vehicle speeds past and what appears to be a drink hits the glass. Both quickly move away, although the footage doesn’t establish who threw it.

The driver’s refusal to leave without the order raises questions about the pressure delivery workers face to complete pickups. A 2026 City University of New York study found that 52% of surveyed app-based food delivery workers worried about being blocked from delivery apps if they didn’t complete orders quickly enough. While that doesn’t explain this driver’s behavior, it offers some context for why an unsuccessful pickup can be a concern for delivery workers.

DoorDash also has procedures for restaurants when problems arise with drivers. Its safety guidelines explain that merchants can report threatening behavior to the company’s Trust and Safety team, which can investigate complaints and prevent drivers from accepting future pickups. DoorDash recommends calling 911 during emergencies, although it’s unclear whether McDonald’s reported this incident to the company.

Melody says she was afraid to speak up at work

“Because I felt threatened and the situation was escalating, I contacted the police,” Melody wrote in her October 7 post. She claims her boss and another manager, whom she identified as Nancy, suspended her afterward. It’s unclear what reason management gave for the suspension.

Melody also alleged that a manager attempted to hit her during an incident in April, before she turned 18. She said she’d experienced unfair treatment throughout her four years at the restaurant and worried that speaking up could cost her job.

On October 16, Melody made another accusation. In a separate Facebook post, she claimed someone in management had sent her unsolicited nude photos and sexually inappropriate messages. She said she’d been afraid to report the behavior because she worried about losing her job.

Massachusetts law requires employers to maintain policies addressing sexual harassment, including procedures for reporting complaints and protections against retaliation. The Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination also outlines employers’ responsibilities to investigate harassment complaints and address substantiated misconduct.

Melody didn’t identify the manager accused of sending the messages or say whether that person was involved in her suspension. She has asked McDonald’s to review the evidence and investigate her complaints, but it’s unclear whether management has responded or whether she’s returned to work.

The Mary Sue reached out to Melody and McDonald’s for comment but has not received a response as of publication.
