Are you ready for the John Hughes inspired Spider-Man movie? Marvel’s COO, Joe Quesada, shared some details about the new Spider-Man design with IGN:
I think there are elements of it that are really going to blow people away, where they aren’t going to go ‘Ah, that’s Marvel doing Spider-Man’…it’s Spider-Man. What’s not exciting about that?
Quesada also discussed the relatability of Spider-Man and the hero as an icon:
I can’t imagine there’s a person on planet Earth that can’t relate to some aspect of Spider-Man 0r Peter Parker, and he is for all intents and purposes, he is Marvel’s Mickey Mouse. He is that icon of so much of what we have was built upon, so to create that movie along with our Sony partners, it’s phenomenally exciting.
He also spoke highly of Kevin Feige and his team:
We all seem to be of the same mind about Spider-Man, because there are certain aspects of the character that are just iconic and have been perfect since the moment they were created.
The new Spider-Man film will star Tom Holland as Peter Parker, and Marisa Tomei is in talks to play Aunt May. Jon Watts will direct and it’s scheduled to hit theaters July 28, 2017.
Personally we’re not sure we’ve forgiven Marvel for prioritizing another white male superhero story over Captain Marvel and Black Panther, but it’s probably time to resign ourselves. What do you think, friends?
