Is ‘Overwatch 2’ Cross Platform?

With the release of Overwatch successor Overwatch 2 looming, everyone has burning questions about the practical aspects of the upgrade away from the original. One of those is whether or not the game will be cross platform.

I love when games are cross platform; it’s romantic. Like Romeo and Juliet. Seriously. If William Shakespeare were alive today, he’d like cross platform playing more than Shakespeare Month. And that’s his month. But c’mon, cross platform play is literally the plot of Romeo and Juliet. Let’s compare it to the opening monologue of the play.

“Two households, both alike in dignity,” yeah, that’s Playstation and Xbox, because they’re both basically the same thing.

“In fair Verona where we lay our scene,” alright, so Verona being “the internet” in this interpretation.

“From ancient grudge” because Playstation and Xbox have historically been trying to kill each other since they both came out.

“Break to new mutiny” because they’re still trying to bankrupt each other

“Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean” because you and me are all participants in this fight, we all have blood on our hands. I myself am House Playstation, and I bite my thumb at House Xbox.

“From the fatal loins of these two foes/a pair of star crossed lovers take their life.” See, this is what I’m talking about. Two Overwatch lovers, bound together by the hand of fate (i.e. the desire to play Overwatch) were both born and raised by either Xbox or Playstation House.

“Whose misadventures piteous overthrows/ do with their death bury their parents strife,” and then by playing Overwatch together and killing each other, they end the feud between Xbox and Playstation House.

Which is all a very long-winded way of saying “yes,” Overwatch 2 will be cross platform.

Starcrossed platform, indeed.
