The Onion and The Global Tetrahedon has taken over Infowars

Alex Jones’ InfoWars has a brand-new owner and fans of Internet satire are going to be thrilled.

On social media, The Onion announced that they were the new owners of the conspiracy broadcast site. Ben Collins talked about it on his own platform and mentioned how the Sandy Hook families played a big role in the parody site assuming control of InfoWars.

It’s not hyperbole to say that it wouldn’t have been possible without the people that Alex Jones mocked for sport over the course of the last decade. Now, those people will lay claim to the tool used to make their lives extremely difficult as a result of the acquisition.

“A lot of institutions and people gave up on doing the right thing over the last two years. Despite an insane amount of threats and bulls***, we persevered,” Collins wrote in a statement.

“Eight years, almost to the day, after the Sandy Hook parents first filed suit against Alex Jones, they’ll finally get some justice, and even some money,” he recalled. “You will get a new home for funny things on the internet, a tote bag with a good logo on it and a great newspaper made by human beings in your real-life mailbox.”

The Onion buys InfoWars

Of course, in certain corners of social media, it was a jubilant scene. People reposted a moment from Pablo Torre’s popular YouTube show and podcast. In that segment, Collins explained his rationale for buying InfoWars.

It would have been too easy to give up and just let Jones win through the court battles. But, The Onion’s editor thought there had to be a way to stand up for what he thought was right. Now, the populace is getting ready for whatever Tim Heidecker has planned for the site.

“What you’re buying isn’t INFOWARs,” Collins argued. “What you’re buying is Alex [Jones’] personal harassment campaign for the rest of your life. You are inheriting this thing. You are taking on all of this b******** forever.”

“We were talking about strength and how he views strength. And, what I’ve realized over the last 18 months, is strength is actually sticking through to what you believe. In what is the right thing to do, for people who would otherwise just abandon it.”

Collins would joke that it isn’t about “Showing up on a horse or taking big pills.” But rather, strength is knowing you’re going to walk into a bunch of people saying insane s*** about you, and keep f****** walking. I think there’s a moment in your life where you see a bunch of evil s*** happening and you have a chance to stop something that is particularly egregious. And, if you walk away from it, I just don’t know why you’re alive?’

What does the future look like for The Onion?

For now, The Onion works to get the entire website handed over. There has to be legal red tape to navigate. But, maybe Jones and his allies will see an opportunity to fundraise off of this and let it go? At any rate, there’s more comedy coming soon.

The outlet joked, “Finally. It took 17 months and hundreds of hours in courtrooms, but America’s Finest News Source has entered into an agreement to operate America’s Source Of Disinformation For Sovereign Citizens Who Reject The Idea Of Child Support. Big things are coming..”

So, there will be parody and one half of Tim and Eric being on-board is a delightful prospect for comedy. (Some of these folks really seemed to have hard opinions about comedians. Hopefully, they keep that energy.)
