‘I barely survived’: Woman tries Epcot’s most ‘horrible’ ride at Disney World. She presses every button before the experience takes a terrifying turn
The ride promised space. She just wanted Earth back
EPCOT is one of Disney World‘s theme parks, known for attractions built around technology, culture, and experiences from around the world. Visitors can explore different countries, try different foods, and take on rides ranging from relaxed to intense.
With so much to do, visitors can easily push their limits at EPCOT. But while most people expect some excitement from a theme park ride, one guest wasn’t prepared for just how intense her experience would become.
TikTok creator Abby (@abbysworldofadventures) shared her experience in a video that has received more than 160,000 views. What started as another ride quickly became something she desperately wanted to stop, and her condition afterward was bad enough to catch an employee’s attention.
‘I hope you make it out’
Abby revealed that the ride was Mission: SPACE Orange, an EPCOT attraction that simulates a space mission. Once inside, she felt uncomfortable in the tight space, with little room to move, a restraint over her, and a screen close to her face while the area around her remained mostly dark.
Then the ride started. Abby claims she became so overwhelmed that she began pressing the buttons in front of her, hoping one of them would stop the experience.
“I was pressing every single button on that ride, hoping that there was an emergency stop,” she recalled. “It was horrific.”
Things only got worse from there. Abby became sick during the ride and threw up, which she claims had never happened to her on an attraction before. “I thought I was done for,” she said.
When Abby finally got out, an employee apparently noticed immediately that she wasn’t doing well. She recalls the worker telling her, “Please sit down. You need to sit down. This is bad. You look bad.”
Abby joked that she had “died” that day and described Mission: SPACE Orange as “horrible.” Despite her experience, she still told other EPCOT visitors to try it for themselves. “I hope you make it out,” she joked. “I barely did.”
What makes Mission: Space Orange so intense?
Mission: SPACE Orange is designed to be the more intense version of the EPCOT attraction. Disney explains that the experience uses a centrifuge that spins and tilts to simulate the forces riders might feel during a spacecraft launch and reentry. Disney also offers a Green Mission, which does not spin and is described as a less intense option.
Orange Mission comes with health warnings. Disney advises guests prone to motion sickness or with conditions the ride could aggravate not to ride. Guests should also keep their heads against the headrest, face forward, and keep their eyes open.
Abby wasn’t alone. Several viewers recognized Mission: SPACE from her reaction before she named it. “I knew this was mission space from the text on the video before even watching,” one person wrote. Another added, “you said ‘so I went to Epcot’ and I said oh no she rode orange.”
Some viewers shared their own frightening experiences with the ride. One person wrote, “I freaked out and started having a panic attack before the ride started so I started beating on the door and screaming for them to let me out. They opened my door and me and my daughter got off before it started. THANK THE LORD!!!”
What should you do if you need the ride to stop?
Feeling trapped can make an amusement park experience frightening, whether on an intense simulator or while trying to get off a ride. Guests who feel unwell before a ride starts should alert a Cast Member rather than trying to open a restraint or door themselves.
During the ride, guests should follow safety instructions and alert staff when possible. Anyone with severe or continuing symptoms afterward should seek help from park staff or medical personnel.
Abby joked that she “barely survived.” But the employee asking her to sit down showed just how badly the ride had affected her.
