Jon Stewart returns to The Daily Show after signing a deal through 2028 and slams ‘Vice President Jeffrey Dahmer Vance’

Imperfect rhetoric.

Jon Stewart recently signed a new deal to stay on in the host chair at The Daily Show through 2028. This news broke just before the October 19, 2026, show aired. In the episode, Stewart took aim at several political figures.

According to Rolling Stone, Stewart started with a joke about his contract renewal. He introduced his guest David Corn saying, “who you know the Native Americans used to refer to as David Maize.” He quickly added, “And they’ve just pulled our renewal! I’m sorry.” The host then spent a significant amount of time attacking Vice President J.D. Vance. He specifically called him ‘Vice President Jeffrey Dahmer Vance’ during the monologue.

Stewart played a clip of Vance speaking at a recent town hall event. In the clip, a woman asked Vance why he was scapegoating immigrants to hide other issues. Vance started to respond with, “I appreciate the question.” Stewart mocked this, saying, “In no way, not in any planet, not in any timeline does J.D. Vance appreciate that question.”

Stewart suggested the answer from Vance was not genuine

The late-night show host claimed, “He f—ing hates that question.” He then joked that the question made the beard of the Vice President itch. Vance had told the woman that his rhetoric was imperfect. Stewart reacted to this apology with sarcasm. He said, “Pobody’s nerfect. Sometimes you incite violence against vulnerable communities and then later on you apologize. I mean, we all read Mein Bad.”

Stewart then criticized the dehumanizing language used against immigrants, arguing that many viewed this as an intentional strategy of the current administration. He mentioned the false claims about Haitian people eating pets. He noted that Vance supposedly admitted this was a useful lie. Stewart claimed that Vance now wants everyone to believe his words were just sloppy.

The conversation then shifted to the recent riots in France. Stewart spoke about how Paris was burning during the past weekend and that French officials had denied any link to immigration or religious communities. However, Vance allegedly ignored these statements on social media. Vance claimed that “Western liberals imported the third world into France.”

Stewart asked, “I’m sorry, Vance, are you seriously suggesting that immigrants have brought a culture of revolution and protest to France?” He compared this to blaming immigrants for the history of the Alamo. He joked that riots are simply part of the ambiance in France.

The late-night host also mocked French President Emmanuel Macron

Macron reportedly attended a Celine Dion concert while his country faced unrest. Stewart joked about the choice of event. He said, “First of all, who goes to a concert with their actual wife?,” referencing the viral Coldplay cheating scandal for that joke. He then called the concert choice metaphorically heavy, noting that the French leader stood on the deck while his country fell apart, while listening to the theme song from Titanic.

Stewart explained that the French riots were actually about fuel prices. He mentioned the rising cost of living in the region. He noted that these problems stemmed from a conflict in the Persian Gulf. The host said, “Holy s—! In France, they’ve burned down an entire city because of a war they didn’t start and aren’t even any part of.” He contrasted this with the situation in the United States, joking that Americans were only mad enough to potentially vote.

The host moved on to President Donald Trump. He discussed the rising gas prices in the United States, mocking the claim that these figures resulted from the war in Ukraine. Stewart also joked about the sanctions on Russian fuel sales. He noted that the administration instated and then waived them. He said, “We will not waver, but we will waive.”

Stewart acted out a fake phone call with Trump

The host asked if the President knew who cut off the access to Starlink. Stewart’s bit showed Trump allegedly replying that he did not do that. In the scenario, Trump said, “No, we didn’t do that at all. In fact, I don’t know where it is. I don’t even think it was slowed down.”

Stewart first debuted as the host of The Daily Show in 1999. He left the program in 2015 but came back in February 2024. His contract was previously set to end in 2026. Variety reported that George Cheeks, co-chair and chief content officer from Skydance TV, praised the move. He called Stewart a generational talent. Cheeks even noted that the show remains an influential franchise on television. The ratings have apparently gone up since Stewart returned.
