Florida Man scolded for sleeping at his job. Then, he shoots boss before going out for a smoke and tricycle ride.

But why a tricycle?

An 81-year-old Florida man who was reportedly told to stop falling asleep at his place of employment allegedly shot his boss, who kept scolding him for the behavior. The boss was airlifted to a hospital but was pronounced dead.

Other employees at the business called authorities after witnessing the shooting. When the police arrived, the employee who shot the boss was taken into custody on charges of second-degree murder.

An extreme overreaction to a reprimand

According to Law & Crime, the police affidavit said employees of the company told police that on the day of the incident, the boss, 61-year-old Delio Trasobares, arrived around 7:30 a.m. and found 81-year-old Jose Lopez in the repair shop with another employee. Allegedly, Lopez had been sleeping at the company and had been told not to do it anymore. When Trasobares discovered Lopez was still doing so, he reprimanded him and asked him to leave.

However, in yet another case of someone who snapped over a minor occurrence, the other employees claimed that Lopez went over to a shelf and pulled out a .40-caliber firearm. He then allegedly shot Trasobares in the chest while he shouted in Spanish, “Go [expletive] yourself! [Expletive] your mother.” Lopez then walked outside to have a smoke. Trasobares attempted to follow him, but collapsed.

When the authorities arrived on scene, they found Lopez riding a tricycle around the parking lot (which, surprisingly, isn’t the oddest thing someone has done after killing another). He reportedly blurted out, “I did it,” when police approached him. When asked whether he had weapons on him, he told the officers that the weapon he had used was still inside, by the microwave. Lopez was immediately placed under arrest before the officers went inside and found Trasobares where he had fallen.

The police reportedly said that during a search of the property, they found a .40-caliber firearm, a 9 mm firearm, a projectile, and a spent casing.

Lopez’s first court appearance was done from a hospital bed

Lopez reportedly complained of chest pain at the scene, so he, too, was transported to a hospital. He was purportedly admitted for high blood pressure. He was still there when it came time for his first appearance in court on the charges of second-degree murder, so he appeared via camera from his hospital bed.

Lopez was allegedly denied bond at that appearance. He was later booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center upon his release from the hospital on October 15. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Monday, October 19.

Allegedly, when authorities interviewed Lopez, he readily admitted that he shot the victim. He reportedly said he did so because he was “fed up” and “had enough of the victim insulting him and complaining.”
