Man Tells Girlfriend To ‘Dress Fancy’ for Date. She Can’t Believe Where He Ends Up Taking Her: ‘I Swear They Do This on Purpose’

Spontaneous dates with your partner should be an exciting adventure. Having them request dress your best for a date at a fancy, upscale establishment is even more exhilarating. But if expectations don’t meet reality, it is a fast track to disappointment. It’s what one woman’s niece allegedly experienced after her boyfriend switched up on her.

But did it actually happen?

Where Did This Girl’s Boyfriend Take Her For Their ‘Date’?

The video uploaded by TikTok creator Miranda (@mirducky54) features her niece wearing a long, spaghetti-strapped dress in the bowling alley. After she approaches the lane, she swings the bowling ball toward the lane and rolls into the gutter.

Once she turns around, her mouth is pinched shut, appearing annoyed, and it’s not only because she scored zero.

“When your boyfriend tells you to dress fancy for the date and takes you bowling!” the text overlay reads, accompanied by a crying face emoji.

Viewers See Red Flags Waving

Miranda’s video amassed 7.5 million views. Many in her comments section took this situation at face value, sensing this was a humiliation tactic. And rightfully so, as a partner (or anyone for that matter) attempting to embarrass you in public is a sign of emotional abuse, according to Healthline. Therefore, they urged her niece to run for the hills fast.

“Girl he’s tryna humiliate you ???” one viewer remarked.

“Making someone get fancy for a super casual date is cruel and embarrassing. Leave him,” a second urged.

“Leave him girly! The way I would have still exuded confidence and been like ‘btw, I’m dumping you,’ once we got home,” a third stated.

Meanwhile, others resonated, sharing their stories and photos of them all dressed up with nowhere to go.

“That happened to me before. He told me to dress up, took me bowling and then was on his phone the whole time. I just embraced the game, [smiled, and] then blocked him after,” one commenter recalled.

“I swear they do this on purpose! My ex told me we were ‘going to the most expensive [restaurant] in nashville so dress up.’ He ended up picking me up in jeans and work boots and took me to the PF Changs in the mall,” a second recounted.

Even The Mary Sue has covered another woman experiencing the inverse. Instead of dressing fancy, her date requested she wear something comfortable, only for the destination to be a fine dining restaurant. Without a doubt, these incidents have occurred to plenty of women.

As it turned out, the joke was on viewers. In a follow-up video, Miranda posted a seven-second clip with her and her niece smiling and laughing. “When your niece accidentally goes viral for bowling in a dress,” she writes in the text overlay. 

Upon scrolling, a viewer posted a screenshot of the alleged original update video. It looks exactly like a carbon copy of it except with a different on-screen text: “Who knew faking a bowling date would get 3 [million] views? Oops.” In a nutshell, there was no boyfriend and bowling date. The entire scenario was fabricated.
