10 Best Couples Halloween Costumes, Ranked

Fall is one of the best times to be a couple, as there are an endless array of fall activities to partake in. There are pumpkin patches to be explored, pumpkins to be carved, Halloween bashes to attend, and scary movies to watch while sipping hot apple cider. However, in addition to the fun fall activities, being a couple is also a huge advantage because it means you can pull off a little something called couples costumes.

Coordinating Halloween costumes might not be everyone’s cup of tea. With just a little creativity, though, couples can create some pretty unique two-person costumes. You can be a TV or film couple like Morticia and Gomez Addams, the Joker and Harley Quinn, or Barbie and Ken. Alternatively, you could go with something more unique like a jailer and a prisoner, a schoolgirl and a schoolboy, or even mustard and ketchup.

If you don’t mind someone being in your personal space, you can even try a two-person costume like a camel (or any four-legged animal) or two halves of a heart, or a Yin and Yang symbol. Needless to say, the possibilities are endless when it comes to couples’ Halloween costumes, and if you play your cards right you could seriously impress with one. If you need some inspiration, here are 10 of the best couples’ Halloween costumes, ranked from pretty good to perfection.

10. Disney Couple

Dressing as a Disney couple is a costume idea that is always popular and recognizable, and it comes with plenty of options. You can be Beauty and the Beast, Rapunzel and Flynn, Anna and Kristoff, Cinderella and Prince Charming, or maybe even Cruella and a Dalmatian. Also, who says you have to stick with the Disney movie style? You can get creative and reimagine the costumes with a zombie or vampire Disney princess and prince. There’s never any lack of Disney costumes available in stores and online and it also makes for an easy DIY. Here’s one couple that showed you can still slay as Cinderella and Prince Charming.

9. Morticia and Gomez Addams

If you’re dressing up as a couple for Halloween, why not dress up as one of the best and most macabre couples in America? Gomez and Morticia Addams are the head of the Addams family. They’re off-kilter and obsessed with all things spooky and macabre. Plus, they’re also madly in love and are total couple goals. It’s a Halloween costume that will be easily recognizable and offers a nice balance of spookiness and romance.

Gomez and Morticia costumes are pretty common at costume stores. However, another reason why they’re on this list is that they can be really easy DIY costumes, too. All you need for Gomez is some hair gel, a suit, a cigar, and a fake hand on your shoulder. For Morticia, you just need some make-up, a wig (unless your natural hair is long and dark), and a black gown, and you’ll be all set. See below for an example of one famous couple who pulled off Gomez and Morticia for Halloween.

8. Barbie and Ken

Barbie and Ken is always a fun, flexible choice for a couple’s Halloween costume. However, it’s especially appropriate this year after set photos leaked from the upcoming live-action Barbie film. The pictures gave us an idea of what a real-life Barbie and Ken would look like. Couples can try to mimic the outfits that Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling donned for the film, or they can try to mimic any of the numerous outfits that Barbie and Ken dolls have debuted over the years.

As with Gomez and Morticia, Barbie and Ken is another super easy DIY costume. It’s especially easy because there’s not just one set look for them. For Barbie, you can go with some neon workout gear, a hot pink dress, or even just a leotard, paired with a blond wig. For Ken, you can get away with just some golf shorts and a Hawaiian t-shirt with bleach blond hair. It’s a highly recognizable costume, it’s easy, flexible, and is in line with current trends, plus you can do as much or as little with it as you want. Here’s a couple who got creative with a Barbie and Ken costume.

7. Mike and Eleven

Stranger Things has been a popular source of Halloween costume inspiration since it first premiered. However, with the debut of its fourth season this year, it’s going to be an especially popular costume this Halloween. Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) got new looks for the series, creating an opportunity for some fresh and unique costumes this year. These are costumes you can easily find online, in Halloween stores, or make as an easy DIY.

For Eleven, you just need a long-sleeve flannel shirt underneath a sleeveless dress with colorful shapes. For Mike, you just need a yellow short-sleeve button-up with a blue t-shirt, shorts, sunglasses, and a colorful visor. If you want to get creative you could even throw in a pair of roller skates. Additionally, you could also mix things up and do a Mike and Will (Noah Schnapp) costume instead or a Max (Sadie Sink) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) one. There are plenty of Stranger Things couples to choose from and their costumes are pretty easy to find and will be trendy this year. Here’s what an Eleven costume might look like this year.

Mario and Princess Peach are always popular couples costumes but will be even more so this year, considering the popular characters are getting an animated film. The internet blew up after the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer and the reveal of Chris Pratt’s Mario voice. So, if you want to make fun of Pratt’s Mario voice, dressing up as Mario and Peach would be the perfect opportunity to do it. Mario and Peach are highly recognizable and bound to be trending this year.

This is a costume you can easily DIY with a red shirt, hat, and some overalls, as well as a pink princess dress. However, Mario and Peach costumes can be found in nearly every store that sells costumes, so it shouldn’t be a problem to nab them. See below for an example of one couple who killed it with their Mario and Peach costume.

5. Loretta and Alan (The Lost City)

If you want to get unique this year, dressing up as Alan Caprison (Channing Tatum) and Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock) from The Lost City would be the way to do it. The film just premiered in 2022 so it will be a fresh costume. Additionally, the adventure-comedy was a huge hit with audiences and critics alike. Dressing up as the two main characters promises a costume that is underrated, unique, funny, and sure to be a hit this year.

Not many stores have Alan and Loretta costumes available. However, it is an easy DIY. For Loretta, you’ll just need a sparkly purple or pink jumpsuit that is a little torn and roughened up. For Alan, all you need is a white hoody and/or t-shirt, with some khaki pants, and sneakers. Getting the costumes a little bit rugged and weathered-looking will be the key to nailing them. Also, don’t forget to add all the accessories like Alan’s backpack, neck pillow, and little suitcase. Below is an example of what Loretta’s costume would look like.

Hocus Pocus costumes are sure to be trending this year with the recent release of Hocus Pocus 2. If you want to get creative and dress up as an unconventional couple this year, Winifred Sanderson (Bette Midler) and Billy Butcherson (Doug Jones) are excellent choices. Even though Butcherson can’t stand Winifred, he can’t seem to get away from her either. You could also go with Butcherson and his actual love interest, Sarah Sanderson (Sarah Jessica Parker), but Winifred and Butcherson will be a lot funnier.

Their costumes are available at most Halloween stores or you can even go with DIY versions of their costumes if you’re up for the challenge. What will make their costumes unique is if you can pull off the intricate make-up, hairstyles, and small costume and accessories details. Hocus Pocus costumes are always popular, but if you can pull off Winifred and Butcherson it’s a costume sure to make a splash this year. Here’s one cosplayer who showed how epic a Butcherson costume can be.

3. Deadpool & Wolverine

Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe confirmed that Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is going to be in Deadpool 3, they would make an excellent and hilarious couples costume this year. Deadpool is a costume you can easily find in most Halloween stores or online and it’s a pretty good unisex costume. Meanwhile, Wolverine is a great costume to either purchase or go DIY with since he has so many different looks. Plus, it’s a costume that can be easily feminized if necessary. If you want to win Halloween with the funniest, most unconventional couples costume, then Wolvie and Deadpool is the way to go. Here’s an example of unique a Wolverine costume.

You can buy these costumes at nearly any Halloween store or also go for an easy DIY. Additionally, the costumes are very easy to modify. You can swap out a suit for some cargo shorts and knee-high boots or accessorize with sunglasses and dog tags. Here’s one couple who showed how good a Top Gun couple’s costume can look.

1. Things that go together (PB & J, Spaghetti & Meatballs, Jack & Coke, etc)

The truth is, not every couple wants to mimic a TV or film couple. Going as two objects that go together is a strong option for any couple. It doesn’t have to be PB & J—it can be spaghetti and meatballs, wine and cheese, Jack and coke, bacon and eggs, etc. The possibilities and options are endless and they never go out of style. You can go as basic or as abstract as you want, too. Most of the costumes will be available online or are easy DIYs. These costumes do away with the fear of your costume not being recognized and they’re easy, accessible, flexible, and almost certain to gain a few laughs and compliments.
