Best Buy employee allegedly sees a woman buying a $2000 gaming PC, then tells her she’s not a ‘real gamer’ for one reason

Imagine shelling out thousands of dollars for your PC gaming setup, only to seemingly be questioned about whether you should own it based on their own definition of a “gamer.” That was the case for content creator @smolarchive, whose interaction with a Best Buy employee left her experiencing a crash-out.
smolarchive recounted how what was supposed to be a quick order pickup turned into a mini interrogation in a video on TikTok. “My local Best Buy would never do this to me,” smolarchive said in her video’s caption.
According to smolarchive, the incident began when she discovered a tempting Fourth of July discount for gaming PCs being sold online at Best Buy. With a $700 discount, smolarchive snagged the deal and ended up purchasing the PC online. She was visibly excited about the new gaming setup, which she considered an “amazing steal” for its price and a “beautiful upgrade” since she streams online.
Best Buy employee allegedly shows some red flags
The issue, however, was that the Best Buy store smolarchive usually frequents in her neighborhood didn’t have the PC she wanted available at their store. But that didn’t deter the content creator from getting the computer rig, so she arranged to pick up the PC at a different location instead.
With her sister in tow, smolarchive arrived at the alternate Best Buy location and headed to customer service to claim the new PC. However, the pickup was already off to a rough start when the employee handling customer service was allegedly showing “red flags” at the get-go.
“[We] go to pick it up, go to customer service. A man is there to help us get my PC, right,” smolarchive told viewers. “Number one red flag: he doesn’t think the PC is for me.”
With the employee supposedly having doubts that smolarchive, a woman, could own such an expensive set, he allegedly asked the TikToker a question that likely crossed some boundaries as an employee. “I don’t mean to get in your business, but how did you buy this?” the employee asked, according to smolarchive’s account.
“And I said, ‘With my money?’ We’re not on a bartering system anymore, babes. I’m not giving you three goats for the f****** PC,” smolarchive said. But the inappropriate questions seemingly didn’t end there, as the employee allegedly turned his line of questioning to her gaming experience.
Employee says she’s not a gamer because she doesn’t play Call of Duty
According to smolarchive, the employee began asking her what games she played, only for the employee to react negatively and tell her she’s not considered a gamer. “I tell him, ‘Oh yeah, I play Valorant,’ and he looks at me like I spat in his face,” smolarchive said. “He looks at me in my eyes, and he says, ‘Man, you don’t play Call of Duty? You ain’t even a real gamer.’”
Understandably, smolarchive was left speechless by the employee’s alleged remarks. Even Elon Musk himself was called a fraud gamer at one point, but to call someone who is trying to make a living from gaming is not exactly a statement you’d want to hear from someone—simply because they don’t play Call of Duty.
“Call of Duty? I’m not a real f****** gamer?” smolarchive said in disbelief. She pointed out that she just bought a PC that costs over $2,000, streams on Twitch, and plays multiple first-person shooter games. So the employee’s definition of what constitutes a “gamer” does appear skewed.
Viewers were just as speechless as smolarchive and assured her that her “crashout” was valid in this instance. “Valid crashout, hes just jealous hes not getting a new PC,” one viewer wrote. smolarchive’s sister even gave her two cents, saying, “Sister here: he was horrible.”
Others were seemingly bewildered that out of all the games, the employee chose Call of Duty as his benchmark for who is considered a gamer. “There’s millions of games out there and people use call of dogs*** to decide if you’re a real gamer or not,” a viewer said. Despite the unwelcome probing, smolarchive still went home with her brand new gaming PC.
