‘What Kind of Hotel is This?’: Man Checks into a Hotel in Albania. They wouldn’t Let Him Go to His Room for One Odd Reason.
He wasn't allowed to eat in his room — so he ate in the lobby instead
Hotels often have a set of reasonable rules that guests have to abide by during their stay. But Tremaine (@tremaineontv), an American traveler who is visiting Albania, said that he was barred from entering his room because of a bizarre rule the hotel imposed.
Tremaine shared a video on TikTok, captioned, “Worse hotel EVER!!! I would never recommend anyone to stay here! Tirana International Hotel.” The travel influencer alleged that the management would not let him bring or eat his food in the privacy of his hotel room.
“That’s not a snack. That’s bread,” a woman’s voice said in Tremaine’s TikTok video. The woman would later be revealed as the receptionist.
“What kind of hotel is this?” Tremaine replied, perplexed by his situation. He said that he was not informed upon check-in that food cannot be taken to the hotel rooms. The influencer further alleged that the receptionist has been “picking” on him since he checked in.
“What if I would’ve had this in a bag? You would’ve never known that I was eating in the room,” Tremaine argued.
“As I see you, I have to tell you that it’s not allowed,” the receptionist replied. Tremaine, increasingly frustrated by the interaction, asked for a set of rules. He claimed that the rules were also not stated in the booking. But the receptionist insisted that Tremaine can access the hotel rules online.
Even though guests often choose hotels for convenience, things don’t always go as planned. These three friends who checked in at a hotel in Montauk would know that sometimes customer service isn’t just lacking but absent.
He finished his food in front of the hotel reception
In an act of belligerent compliance, Tremaine decided to eat his hotdog right in front of the receptionist.
“This hotel is expensive for no reason,” he commented before taking a bite of his Mediterranean hotdog. He even opened a soda can and started eating, using the front desk as a dining table. The influencer claimed that he needed to pay a $5,000 deposit to check in.
“Expensive for no reason. Old and outdated, rusty and dusty,” he continued, still frustrated by the experience. The receptionist also commented on Tremaine’s behavior, saying that the reception is “not a dining table.” Nevertheless, she also said that he can do “whatever” he wants.
Despite the escalating situation, Tremaine even tried chatting with the receptionist.
“This is a Mediterranean hotdog that I just got from that van.” He gestured at the food truck out of the hotel and asked if the receptionist has tried it before, but she said no. Tremaine commented that it was “weird” that she works at the location but has yet to try the nearby delicacy.
“How do you come in? You teleport?” Tremaine said, cracking a joke despite the tense situation. He proceeded to do a review of the hotdog he bought.
“It’s pretty good, but it’s really basic,” he stated. He found a trashcan near the reception and finished up his food.
Several social media users were appalled by the hotel’s rule. One commenter wrote, “Complain to booking and get a refund.”
Another TikTok user quipped, “They must be fighting a roach infestation.” Most hotels would allow their guests to bring food to their rooms. Some would even have complimentary snacks prepared for guests in their rooms. But there are hotels that are simply fussy with rules, just as much as some Airbnb listings are.
