On July 20, 2026, Jon Stewart, one of the United States President Donald Trump’s strongest critics, discussed him at length, focusing especially on his conduct during the FIFA World Cup Finals and after it.
Stewart first joked about Trump not leaving the podium as the Spanish team posed for its celebratory photo after winning during the FIFA World Cup Finals. Then he commented on what Trump said after attending the event and made fun of that as well. Next, he observed what was behind Trump when he was speaking to the press about this year’s World Cup, and expressed shock and concern over it.
Jon Stewart identifies a potential backup Donald Trump in a video
During the July 20, 2026, episode of The Daily Show, Stewart, while reviewing a video of Donald Trump speaking to a press person about this year’s FIFA World Cup being 4-5 times better than previous ones, noticed something strange. Walking behind him was a man who looked eerily similar to Trump, and not only that, he was also, strangely enough, walking the same way Trump does.
Talking of Trump, he was heavily booed during his appearance at the FIFA World Cup Finals.
As soon as Stewart made this observation during the episode while watching the video for the first time, he asked his team to replay it and said, “Oh my god, is that a backup Trump?” He continued, “Is that a backup Trump or is that Trump? Wait, is the one we have been dealing with backup Trump?” Stewart’s comments on the matter made the entire audience burst into loud laughter.
Jon Stewart also emphasized Trump’s comments, or the lack thereof, about escalating tensions with Iran
While discussing Trump, Stewart mentioned that tensions between the United States and Iran were once again rising, and in a time as volatile as this, Trump was addressing the “urgent situation” on national television. Stewart then played a clip from the event in which Trump isn’t really talking about Iran but China instead.
Trump, in his speech, accused China of trying to influence the results of the mid-2018 midterm elections and the 2020 presidential elections. Continuing, Trump told the audience, “They wanted to just make you sound like your president wasn’t so hot when actually your president has done a great job.” As the video ended, the audience exploded into laughter, and Stewart covered his face before remarking, “Those Chinese bastards.”
