Lego Just Revealed Its New ‘The X-Files’ Set, and It Has a Whopping 1,478 Pieces

The X-Files and Lego fans, the crossover you’ve been waiting for is finally here. Lego just revealed its new The X-Files set, which is a doozy, coming in at 1,478 pieces.

The reveal came through a partnership with Gillian Anderson, who appeared in a promo film for the set. The film features Anderson receiving a mysterious package at her hotel room that ends up containing the Lego set, which she then investigates. (It’s incredibly cute.)

It’s fantastic to see Lego creating sets for properties that aren’t as massive as, say, Star Wars and nostalgic to see a set based on genre television from the 1990s. But when can fans expect to obtain this set, and what else does it include?

Here’s What to Expect With This New Lego Set

Besides the nearly 1,500 pieces this Lego set comes with, there are eight minifigures, which include Dana Scully, Fox Mulder, Mr. X, Walter Skinner, Carl Busch, Alex Krycek, a grey alien, and The Flukeman. When all the pieces are assembled, the result is a replica of Mulder’s office and a forest clearing, as well as a hovering UFO. And the details are pretty impressive.

Lego has included all sorts of fun little Easter eggs, such as pencils in Mulder’s office ceiling. Other details include a nod to Mulder’s sunflower seed habit, a “The Truth is Out There” tile, an “I Want to Believe” poster, and an “X-Files” dossier. Plus, people can showcase the The X-Files Lego set in various ways, such as by stacking the forest section on top of the office with the UFO at the very top or separating the sections into individual scenes.

The set officially drops August 4th, but Lego Insiders Early Access members can get in on the set early, starting August 1st. The retail price is $199.99, and for those who purchase it between August 1st and August 10th, Lego will throw in a smaller set that builds into a recreation of Scully’s lab (while supplies last).

How Did Lego Choose ‘The X-Files’?

Lego didn’t actually come up with the idea to do a set based on The X-Files; that came from Australian 3-D artist and fan designer Brent Waller, via the Lego Ideas Line. The Lego Ideas Line is where people can submit ideas for what they’d like to see for a set. If the idea receives enough votes, the Lego company will then consider producing it. Waller submitted the idea for the “’90s Nostalgia Challenge.”

Plenty of people are excited about the set, including Anderson, who said in a statement, according to Variety, “Seeing myself in minifigure form is both surreal and oddly delightful – there’s something very charming about being ‘miniaturised. The whole set is a brilliant celebration of the ‘X-Files’ which I hope fans enjoy revisiting in this way – I know I can’t wait to put tiny Scully on my shelf.”
