The White House Released a Cursed May the 4th Post, Reminding Us All That Trump Doesn’t Realize He’s the Empire

Star Wars has everyone posting on May the 4th. But, the White House has a new post that shows how much they’re missing the point.
As everyone gets into the lightsaber wielding holiday, the United States government is using AI to turn President Donald Trump into The Mandalorian. Their post reads, “In a galaxy that demands strength – America stands ready. This is the way. May the 4th be with you.”
So, where to start? Jedi doctrine has some pretty lengthy thoughts about the pursuit of strength and power. In addition, the creepy little Grogu that Trump has tucked in there is a bit uncanny. Is there an America in Star Wars? This picture sure seems to think so!
But, the White House isn’t alone. The Republicans’ official account turned Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker into Jabba the Hut. And, another legislator is a Yassified Jedi. It’s all tedious in its own way.
However, it could be perceived as an insight into the conservative mind. They are conquering heroes. Ordained by some mystical higher power that we cannot see to root out evil with the help of a laser sword. Basically, a fundamentally flawed, comically rudimentary, reading of the entire Star Wars franchise. And, there are people out there who do not get this property! So, the GOP is not alone in their misplaced fervor.
Modern Star Wars is just one of the many battlegrounds that MAGA has made in our culture. They argue about Star Wars, Marvel, video games, and popular movies until the cows come home every day. Just because today is May the 4th doesn’t mean it’s any different. You’re still allowed to be confused by how strange this all is. We’ve got wars that are decidedly not in the stars to worry about, after all!
White House Trolling With Star Wars

Trolling on main as a core tenet of government has been normal operating procedure for years. (And Dems indulge too! Looking directly at Gavin Newsome’s social media strategy…)
But, it’s clear that the culture war fervor probably isn’t going to be enough in 2026. The Hill spoke to North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer about the MAGA’s midterm prospects. And, he doesn’t sound excited!
“It’s not like these things are hard. That’s the thing. I feel like the Senate has teed up things fairly easily for them, even to the point where if they don’t like it, they can blame us. And they still haven’t taken the opportunity to actually govern, and I do think it’s hurting the brand,” Cramer argued. “The House is rowdy.”
Make no mistake, he’s not wrong. All of the intraparty squabbling will probably cost the GOP dearly in these midterm elections. If they falter, a lot of their failure will lay sorely at the feet of President Donald Trump.
While a large number of the party’s policymakers have been tilting at windmills. That is, delivering culture war wins. People on the ground are feeling the crunch of everyday life. That’s something that posting about Star Wars isn’t going to help with.
But, that is part and parcel of the experience of GOP leadership in 2026. Largely, they cruised to power on vibes, racism, and a general distrust of institutions from the electorate. But, it turns out, you can’t eat vibes.
United States Trolling Strategy
One of the most telling press communications that this White House has put out was earlier this term. After posting another meme, they wrote a message that might as well have been the marching orders for the entire operation.
“Attention: Trump didn’t come to play. Six months in. All gas. No brakes. The winning will continue,” the argued. “The deportations will continue. The memes will continue. The golden age will continue!”
There’s just one teeny little problem. All that trolling and chest beating works when people are going along with your agenda. But, it’s safe to say in early 2026, a lot of Americans are missing an element of steady leadership. Social media content fodder helps keep the lights on at numerous online publications.
But, the general public probably can’t keep living like this. The embracing of the Star Wars memes might be a-OK in MAGA-land. However, the White House should probably be more concerned that they don’t have the higher ground right now.
