World Cup Fanz Threaten to Walk to MetLife, Very Clearly Misunderstanding New Jersey

World Cup fans are going to want to acquaint themselves with how New Jersey works ahead of the big event.
The futbol tournament beloved by the entire world is supposed to take place in the United States this year. Many fans on social media are upset about how the transit situation is looking for the match scheduled at MetLife Stadium. The Athletic reported that spectators using New Jersey Transit trying to get back to New York Penn Station would be subject to a massive fee.
In the outlet’s reporting, New Jersey Transit is asking for $150 per person for a return trip to NYC after the massive game. Ordinary tickets are $12.90. So, you can understand why people would be miffed at that wild increase. But some fans thought of a solution: Walk. The Problem? It’s New Jersey. Somebody please get a hold of our boy Gregor.
“If they keep this bs up there will be 50k intl fans each game day who just take a regular train to Rutherford and WALK the 1h to the MetLife Stadium,” Gregor wrote. “I know walking is an unfamiliar concept for most Americans, but it is a thing in the rest of the world.”
World Cup fans trying to walk from NYC to New Jersey
Where to start? As someone who has lived in New Jersey before, I would strongly caution against walking to the Meadowlands from New York City or anywhere else.
Anyone who’s been to a Wrestlemania in that stadium, or a particularly humid Giants game will tell you that nothing good comes from walking around MetLife Stadium.
The lovely @potatoslav had the best read about this for our International friends. Please for the love of God do not try to attempt to walk on these highways and expressways. Figure something else out for your own health, I beg you!
“I need to tell you, I’m the only one that’s right about this… Do you know what this is? This is The Meadowlands,” she illustrated. “The Meadowlands is a swamp full of toxic waste, trash, and mob bodies. These are some of the most major roads in the country. If you try to cross these on your feet, you will get killed.”
“People were saying, ‘Oh, we’ll just fill up the roads.’ You do not understand, these are New Jersey drivers. New Jersey drivers are insane, they will kill you,” @potatoslav mused. “And, they’re also like, ‘why isn’t there a bridge?’ A bridge to where? It’s in the middle of nowhere in a swamp.”
Will people still show for the World Cup?
The World Cup fervor continues apace. However, the excitement isn’t where you would expect it to be. Unfortunately, the United States is in the middle of navigating the Donald Trump administration’s various policies. From inflationary tariffs to ICE presence at these games, there’s been a chilling effect on the World Cup’s business so far this year.
If you are out there reading this and somehow brave enough to voluntarily enter the United States to see a futbol match, please don’t jeopardize your health any further by trying to master the freaking Meadowlands in 90 degree weather. If the mosquitoes don’t get you, a Ford F-150 might.
