Reality Star Perez Hilton Hospitalized After Self-Harming Live on TikTok
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office says an individual was "safely recovered" from his property.
U.S. celebrity blogger and reality star Perez Hilton is recovering in hospital after he was seen performing extreme acts of self-harm with a knife while live-streaming on his TikTok account on Tuesday. Reports claim that responders attended the star’s Miami home after members of the public raised concerns over the stream.
The live stream, which drew widespread alarm from those who saw it, saw viewers begging him to stop, reminding him he has children, and trying to figure out his address so authorities could help him.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, an individual was “safely recovered” from the property and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. In a statement that did not name Hilton directly, the sheriff’s office confirmed that a crisis response unit and licensed mental health professional team were on the scene to “provide support and resources to the individual’s family.”

“In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritise de-escalation by creating time, distance and opportunities for communication,” their statement said. “Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimise the risk of injury to the individual, deputies and the public.”
Hilton’s managers (via TMZ), Dante Rusciolelli and Rebekah Kochan, acknowledged the incident in a statement: “At this time, we have not been able to make direct contact with him, despite our ongoing efforts to reach him. Our primary concern is Perez’s health and well-being, as well as the well-being of his family. Until we have confirmed information, we will not speculate or comment further.”
As expected, they asked that Hilton’s privacy be respected and refused to speculate on the circumstances that could have led to Hilton’s hospitalization.
Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, became known for his often controversial celebrity gossip website in the early 2000s, but has more recently worked on more family-friendly content via podcasts and reality TV appearances.
During his early years, Hilton gained notoriety for his frequently brutal takes on celebrities such as Miley Cyrus, the Kardashians, and even his once-close friend Lady Gaga. In 2025, he was called out by Bruce Willis’ daughter Tallulah for the way he “bullied” her as a child, and Kourtney Kardashian hit back against Hilton’s speculation about her son Mason.
However, more recently he has apologized for the way he had built up his career through the use of shocking and outrageous commentary. His persona changed in line with the shifting attitudes to covering celebrity news, and he became family-oriented after becoming a father of three through surrogacy.
In his memoir, Hilton said, “I have a ton of regrets, particularly because I now see that I never needed to be so mean or cruel. One of the many things I regret is that I hurt so many people by giving them nasty nicknames, and above all that I was unkind to the children of celebrities.”
While there are currently few details about the reason for Hilton’s actions leading up to his live-stream, his TikTok account has since been banned. More information will likely be forthcoming once Hilton has recovered.
