Game of Thones Jon Snow Sequel Series Officially Announced by HBO

It's official: a Game of Thrones sequel series following Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) is in development at HBO.

It’s official! Nearly three years after HBO’s megahit Game of Thrones came to a very buzzy (very hotly debated) end, the franchise’s first sequel series is finally in development – and who better to be the focus of it all than Jon Snow? According to initial insights from The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has entered early development on a live-action Jon Snow series, with Kit Harrington attached to reprise his (2x Emmy nominated) role as the scene-stealing brooder/reanimated corpse.

Should the series make it past the development phase (which is a big ‘if’, and likely highly dependent on the success of HBO’s other planned Game of Thrones spinoff, The House of the Dragon) the series would follow Jon Snow post-series, focusing on his adventures across Westeros after being exiled from the North in the show’s finale.

In addition to The House of Dragon (a prequel series set 200 years before the events of GOT that will air later this year), this untitled Jon Snow sequel spinoff is hardly the only spinoff on the horizon for the franchise – three animated spinoffs are also reportedly in the works at HBO, including The Golden Empire, 10,000 Ships, and 9 Voyagers. All three shows would focus on characters from the book series created by George RR Martin, which still has yet to be completed.

When it comes to what the narrative of this potential Jon Snow spinoff, there’s no telling where the showrunners would take the once-beloved Warden of the North – especially considering the revelations about his true heritage in Game of Thrones‘ final season, and the death of his lover/aunt (yikes) Daenerys Targaryen, who he killed in the controversial finale.

With his lover dead, his status as a Targaryen finally revealed, and no way to return to the North any time soon, there’s plenty of juicy drama for the potential spinoff to dive into – not to mention possible guest stars like Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams as Jon’s sisters Sansa and Arya.

Though there likely won’t be surefire confirmation of the series itself until much further down the line, any kind of rumblings about a sequel show has the potential to right the wrongs of the epic finale that left so many fans frustrated with the ending of their favorite series. Until then, we know virtually nothing, Jon Snow.
