Another day, another scandal.

My apologies to everyone who hoped for a politics free Sunday. In advance of the publication of her tell-all memoir Unhinged, Omarosa Manigault Newman appeared on Meet the Press with a tape of her firing from the White House by chief of staff John Kelly. In it, he makes what Manigault Newman states is a threat, saying:

“I think it’s important to understand that if we make this a friendly departure, we can all be, you know, you can look at your time here at the White House as a year of service to the nation, and then you can go on without any difficulty in the future relative to your reputation.”

It’s hard not to interpret that as anything but threatening. Manigault Newman went on to say as much in her interview:

It is very obvious a threat. He goes on to say that things can get ugly for you. The chief of staff of the United States, under direction of the president of the United States, threatening me on damage to my reputation. And things getting ugly for me, and damage to my reputation, that is downright criminal. And if I didn’t have these recordings, no one in America would believe me. So I protected myself and now I am glad I did.”

Manigault Newman also went on to say that she was “complicit” and apologizes for defending President Trump’s response to the Charlottesville riots last year, where he said violence came “from all sides” rather than the white supremacists who murdered Heather Heyer. Recently, both press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and President Trump have both attacked Manigault Newman for her book and words.

You can listen to the full tape on Variety. We will keep you posted on any updates as they continue throughout the day.
