A Man Allegedly Pointed a Gun at Her and Stole Her Truck. Her Only Regret: ‘I Could’ve Made Better Small Talk’
She kept thinking back at the conversation she had with her carjacker and thought it could've gone better.
To be held at gunpoint is a nightmare scenario nobody hopes to be in. But a caller from the Perfect Person podcast (@perfectpersonpod) shared how she regrets being “awkward” around the man who pointed a gun at her, all the while he was busy carjacking her.
“I was carjacked, and I’m worried that I was awkward during the situation,” the caller told the hosts in a viral clip on TikTok. Miles Bon, the host of the show, spoke to the caller together with Erin Dougal. They laughed at the caller’s dilemma, with Dougal even joking that she found it “relatable.”
“And because of the way the situation worked out, I had like a pretty extensive conversation while being carjacked?” she added. Bon’s mouth fell at the woman’s additional explanation.
“I was at a gas station, and I was pumping gas. And this guy approached me and asked if I could give him a ride,” the woman continued. She politely refused, saying that she was going the other direction. The woman alleged that the man then pulled out a gun, demanding that she give up her truck and money to him. Essentially, the situation quickly escalated like a car unpromptedly crashing into a Krispy Kreme joint. The woman said she went along with the man’s demand so long as she would not be harmed in the process.
At this point, the hosts were in shock. Bon was shaking his head, and Dougal was uncomfortably laughing about the situation. The woman said that she was about to return to the gas pump. But then, the alleged carjacker told her to “keep pumping gas” into her truck.
An awkward carjacking situation
“I had to stand there and pump gas with a gun pointed at me,” the woman said. Bon reacted to her escalating story, saying, “This is so horrifying. Jesus, I’m so sorry.” The woman further explained that the carjacking happened on a Sunday afternoon. The incident allegedly occurred in broad daylight, at a gas station packed with people. She wasn’t targeted late at night, unlike this woman who went grocery shopping late at night, only for her to later realize two people may have been tailing her in the store.
“Every piece of this story is crazy. He had one leg—he had a prosthetic leg and a guitar case. I had to stand there and pump gas, and we had an awkward conversation,” she claimed. While she filled the truck, the man had apparently asked her for her number.
“Hmm, I don’t know that I want this guy to have my number, so I, like, said no. But, should I have said yes?” The woman asked. The hosts seemed stunned. They were confused as to why the man would be asking for her number. She explained that he wanted to later inform her where he was going to dump her truck.
“Kind of a respectful king,” Bon joked. Dougal agreed, because the man ‘asked’ the victim first to hitch a ride before unceremoniously pointing a gun at her later.
What happened to her truck?
“He went joyriding on a golf course, and did some donuts, and crashed it into a ditch, and got arrested,” the woman said. It was still a series of unexpected events for her truck. However, the woman said she feels “haunted” by the conversation she had with her alleged carjacker.
“In that conversation, I feel like I just, like, was not normal,” she said. Bon, confused by her conclusion, said, “What are you talking about?” Many people would talk about the terror they felt in that dangerous situation, like this Nashville woman who felt traumatized after her ‘friends’ left her at a drug den.
But all the caller could say was, “I could’ve made better small talk?” Dougal reassured her that she didn’t need to make small talk in a carjacking situation. Bon, on the other hand, advised her that if the same situation were to happen again, she should ask the carjacker “a few personal questions” to get the ball rolling. After all, it’s information she could eventually turn over to the police. But hopefully, she wouldn’t have to suffer yet another “awkward” and risky situation.
