CIA Offers a Look Into Some of Their Real “X-Files”

The truth is out there, but it might be heavily redacted.

In perfect tandem with the premiere of the first new X-Files episode in almost 14 years, the CIA is offering fans and conspiracy theorists alike a chance to pore through some of its declassified documents from the 1950s, most of them dealing with UFO investigations:

While there are certainly some documents they say are the kind that “Mulder would love to get his hands on”, including eyewitness reports of flying saucers reported over places like Germany and North Africa, there’s also a set of docs that they claim Scully would definitely point to in trying to debunk all of Mulder’s crazy theories. In other words–the CIA’s investigation into UFOs appears to have followed the same inconclusive trail as their fictional FBI counterparts. Then again, who knows how many more classified documents there are out there that could reveal the Truth Mulder’s been searching for?

The CIA also posted this helpful listicle of tips for UFO investigation, along with the hashtag #ProjectBlueBook, which was the code name given to the U.S. Air Force’s UFO investigation program.

Social media is just a crazy, crazy thing, and it’s kind of hilarious that the CIA is adopting the ways of BuzzFeed when it comes to interacting with the public now–or that they even have a Twitter account to begin with. Okay, FBI. Your move.
