“Books Everyone Should Read” Is Significantly Sci-Fi

Inside of a dog it's too dark to read

David McCandless compiled this title cloud from fifteen prestigious surveys of favorite books, including the United Kingdom’s list of most borrowed library books, all Pulitzer prize winners in Fiction and Novel, and the Booker Prize winners.

As you may have noticed, the list skews significantly towards Science Fiction, Fantasy, and dystopian fiction to give us the novels and stories that we need to be informed consumers of our own culture. From Midnight’s Children, to The Time Traveler’s Wife, Fahrenheit 451, His Dark Materials, Watership Down, 1984, The Lord of the Rings, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Chronicles of Narnia, Brave New World, Catch-22, The Hobbit, Slaughterhouse-Five, and Animal Farm, and those are only the ones I can see without squinting at this size.

I guess I should finally read To Kill a Mockingbird, huh?

She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
