It’s a more elegant toy for a more civilized age.

It is a dark time for the Rebellion. Although the Death Star has been destroyed, Imperial troops have driven the Rebel forces from their hidden base and pursued them across the galaxy. Evading the dreaded Imperial Starfleet, a group of freedom fighters led by Luke Skywalker has established a new secret base on the remote ice world of Juneau, Alaska. Wait, hang on… that doesn’t sound right.

Last Tuesday, Juneau Police were called in by a resident of Mendenhall Valley to investigate a unidentified object on the side of the road. Not knowing what it was, they called for back up; the dispatcher sent out a second officer who specializes in Explosive Ordinance Disposal, who promptly identified it as a plastic lightsaber taped to a stick. Congratulations, second officer! If this were an actual Star Wars movie, you’d probably be one of the Stormtroopers with a speaking role.

Juneau Police Department spokeswoman Erann Kalwar suggested the confusion might have occurred because the toy was closed such that the collapsible plastic blade was not visible to the naked eye. But now everything’s under control and the situation is normal; as Kalwara told the Juneau Empire, the toy “was not explosive in any way,”  They had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh… everything’s perfectly all right now. They’re fine. They’re all fine here now, thank you. How are you?
