Dear LEGO, Please Make Awesome Science Lady LEGO Sets, Because This 7-Year-Old Wants You To

I mean, all of us want you to, but this kid is cuter than we are, so listen to her.

The LEGO team responsible for making sets based on fan ideas recently put out their list of finalists for production, and on that list was this awesome science-themed lady minifig set by Alatariel. So how can we ensure that this set is actually made? By getting our cutest representatives to send letters to LEGO about gender equality, of course.

As we mentioned when news first broke that the fan-created Ghostbusters themed minifig set would get made, LEGO CUUSCOO is almost like a petition site for possible LEGO sets; users submit their works and after they get 10,000 supporters, LEGO reviews them for stability, playability, safety, intellectual property, market fit, and other factors.

This scientist lady set feels like a no-brainer to us insufferable liberal feminist types, but recently, LEGO’s been doing some weird things with their marketing that haven’t felt very good to ladies. There are those annoyingly stereotypically feminine LEGO Friends toys, sure, but even before that, there were those weird slenderizing body indentations that they’ve been putting on the regular female LEGO minifigs for some time. You know, because I guess women who are made of blocks aren’t allowed to be authentically block-shaped.

???????????????????????????????

This image of LEGO’s already existing female scientist minifig shows you what I’m talking about. See those gray indents on either side of her torso? Yeah, those are bullshit.

It should be noted that Alatarial’s conceptual line doesn’t have those indents, which is completely awesome, and the minifigs are all professionally working women in a variety of different scientific fields like robotics, paleontology, and astronomy.

So will LEGO take the leap and produce some awesome lady scientists? Hopefully yes, if Charlotte Benjamin has anything to say about it. She recently wrote a strongly-worded letter to LEGO taking them to task for propagating the pink-aisle-for-girls blue-aisle-for-boys mentality that’s so common with current toymakers. Oh, also, Charlotte is seven years old.

Here’s the letter (via Buzzfeed):

letter

In case you can’t read her gloriously first-grade level handwriting:

Dear Lego company:

My name is Charlotte I am 7 years old and I love legos but I don’t like that there are more Lego boy people and barely any Lego girls. Today I went to a store and saw legos in two sections the girls pink and the boys blue. All the girls did was sit at home, go to the beach, and shop, and they had no jobs but the boys went on adventures, worked, saved people, and had jobs, even swam with sharks. I want you to make more Lego girl people and let them go on adventures and have fun ok!?!

Thank you.

From Charlotte.

You heard the kid, LEGO. You have an opportunity to make more LEGO girl people and let them go on adventures and have fun, so don’t waste it. Girls want to swim with sharks, too.
