It’s been a couple months since we’ve gotten an update on the Peggy Carter-starring series confirmed to be in development at ABC. And, well, it’s still in development. Pilot writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (if made, writer/producer duo Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have been confirmed to serve as showrunners) spoke to Collider about their progress on the series, and what it would look like once greelit by the network, and the revealed details are promising.

Markus and McFeely confirmed that the show would take place in 1946, or at least it would for the first season. The two envision the series working as multiple stand alone seasons; “the British model,” where in twelve or thirteen hour-long episodes the show would “wrap up that one bad guy, that one case and then if you like it we’ll do it again the next year,” 1947.

Other tidbits? Hayley Atwell is definitely onboard and ready to make that transition from movies to television. Dominic Cooper, the actor behind Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger, has also been approached for a potential recurring role, but Markus and McFeely stressed that it would only be recurring, saying “you don’t want to take away from [Peggy]… If Howard’s in every episode, then it’s the Peggy and Howard show.”

But as to whether the show would actually get made, the two remained cautious, calling the possibility “a big maybe” thats “in ABC’s hands.” I do hope ABC bites, though. While I appreciate that SHIELD is trying to do justice to character development for an ensemble cast, I think the show probably could have benefitted from the plotline slimming effects of a shorter season. It premiered in September and at this rate won’t finish up its season until May.
