remakes

  1. Sony Exorcising its Rite to Nostalgia, Is Remaking The Craft

    Craft services.

Hollywood, please don't let this be a Jem and the Holograms-level disappointment. I know it's technically impossible for you to retroactively ruin my childhood, and I'm fairly convinced that this new adaptation won't erase all copies of the 1996 The Craft from existence, but if either of those events come to pass and you do in fact manage to ruin teen witches for all eternity, I owe some baby-men an apology.

  2. Time Warp Again? Rocky Horror Picture Show Being Re-Imagined As a FOX Special

    "It seems so unhealthy here."

We have news of yet another re-imagining of another property that wasn't particularly screaming for a remake. This time, it's The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Just in time for the cult classic's 40th Anniversary, FOX is creating a made-for-TV special called The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event, which will keep all the original music and the original story but, according to Deadline Hollywood, "greatly reimagine the story visually."

  3. Sony Entertainment Delivering Indian Game of Thrones Remake

An already epic show to be made THAT MUCH MORE EPIC.

Sony Entertainment TV will be broadcasting an Indian version of Game of Thrones is in production as we speak! As if the HBO series weren't epic enough, the series currently being shot in India, called Rani Mahal (or "Queen's Paradise"), is sure to turn the epic-ness dial up to eleven.

  5. NBC Orders Pilot Of American The IT Crowd Remake, Because That Worked So Well The First Time

People, what a bunch of bastards.

Hey, remember back in the mid-2000s when an American remake of a much beloved British sitcom was brought to television and, despite having a hard time originally finding its footing, eventually stopped trying to be the exact same show as its predecessor and achieved great success? What was that called again? Oh, wait—that was The Office. The American The IT Crowd was left to rot like the awkward and tonally deaf pilot that it was.

  6. Wiggle Your Nose In Distaste Because They’re Trying To Revive Bewitched For TV

    Samantha Stephens would never.

One of the most beloved television sitcoms and the originator of the take-no-sass witch, Bewitched aired on ABC for eight years, and brought us the brilliance that was Elizabeth Montgomery. Having apparently learned nothing from the travesty that was the 2005 Nicole Kidman/Will Ferrell remake, people are trying to revive Samantha for the small screen. Stop.

  8. Good Frakking God They’re Making a Big TV Series

    No and also why?

Listen, we know we have been back and forth on this whole reboot and remake thing. Sometimes we're willing to give them a shot if they do something interesting that the original doesn't. Other times, we know better. This is one of those other times.

  10. I Know What You Did Last Summer Is The Latest ’90s Classic To Get a Remake

I Know What You Did That Summer Almost Two Decades Ago?

Welp, it was only a matter of time. But there's a writer on board for this particular remake that might mitigate some of your kneejerk anti-remake rage.

  11. Margot Robbie In Talks To Take On Motoko In The Ghost In The Shell Movie

The net is vast and infinite.

Cyberterrorists better watch out; Deadline is reporting that Wolf of Wall Street star Margot Robbie is in talks to play the lead character, Motoko, in the Ghost in the Shell live-action film. The real-people Ghost in the Shell adaptation is being made by Dreamworks, with Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) directing, and William Wheeler (...some episodes of The Cape?) writing the script.

  12. In Defense of Reboots and Remakes, Those Red-Headed Stepchildren of Film

    Droppin' some knowledge.

A friend told me a story the other day. He was discussing reboots with his wife, explaining how he doesn't like them on principle. Until his wife had the gall to point out: "Wait, honey... you love Battlestar Galactica."

  13. Ben-Hur Remake Wants To Bless The World With A Chariot-Driving Tom Hiddleston

    Swing low.

MGM and Paramount cannot hide their feelings for Tom Hiddleston any longer: they want him to appear in their upcoming Ben-Hur remake, and they want it bad, which is probably a good call.

  14. Dean Israelite and Arash Amel in Talks to Direct, Write WarGames Reboot, Which Is Still Happening

Shall we play a game? (Please, let's not.)

The last we heard of the WarGames reboot, it was most certainly a thing that was happening, because the `80s are like a magical fountain where all movie ideas flow from. That was back in 2011, though, and we haven't heard much about it since—that is, until today, when we learned it was still a thing that's going to happen, but now it almost has a director and writer.

  16. Today In Hollywood Remakes, Reboots, and Spinoffs: The Lion King, The Magic School Bus, and Sonic the Hedgehog

Things to Do With Your Kids

It's taken a few years longer than I expected for Hollywood to realize "Hey, we haven't done a live action/CG hybrid Sonic the Hedgehog movie yet!" But it happened. I wonder what the furries, who infamously comprise a significant percentage of the Sonic fandom, have to say about this?

  17. Smash Bros. With Valve Characters Looks Incredibly Fun

I will wreck all of you with Chell. Valve, how can we make this happen?

I have made no secret of my love of Smash Bros., but the concept doesn't always work when applied to other companies' mascots. So, I don't know if it's the shot-for-shot remake of the epic Smash Bros. Melee opening or what, but I desperately want this Valve edition to be a real thing that I can play.

  20. This Full-Length, Crowdsourced RoboCop Remake Is as Weird and Funny as It Sounds [Video]

Part remake. Part spoof. All hilarious.

The guys behind Our RoboCop Remake are sick of the Hollywood remake machine, so they decided to do something about it. They broke the original RoboCop down into separate segments and let a whole lot of filmmakers each remake a piece so they can ruin RoboCop before Hollywood does, and the result is pretty fun to watch.
