Over the last few days lists of TV shows renewed, cancelled, greenlit, and not picked up have been rolling in. We’ve already told you about a few: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been picked up, because of course it has, as has Alfonso Cuarón‘s Believe, about a ten-year-old girl with superpowers.

In a feat of cross-fandom meta the likes of which is rarely seen on television, the producers of Nathan Fillion’s post-Firefly gig on ABC, Castle, are looking to cast someone to…play Nathan Fillion. Castle, for non-watchers out there, is a five-seasons-running show about a crime writer assisting the NYPD in solving unusual cases. As an upcoming Season 5 episode summary details, the show is looking to cast for a story about…an actor who rose to fame on a hit sci-fi series playing one Captain Max Richards.

I made sure to put a no spoilers guarantee up here, since the early secret showings have shown, and the internet seems really interested in making me watch videos of Iron Man fighting Thor and Tony Stark verbally sparring with Loki, and I am firmly saying no until I can actually see the entire movie in two and a half weeks.
And that’s why I like this video. Because it has everything to do with the Whedonverse, and almost nothing to do with The Avengers.

Well, now that I’ve crafted a sufficiently apparently nonsensical title for you, you should know that in the Castle episode “Punked,” involved a Deloran, suspicions of time traveling, suspicions of old-timey duels to the death, suspicions of old-timey duels to the accidental death, and a Steampunk society murder.
Also, during the episode, Nathan Fillion’s titular character dons a Steampunk styled outfit complete with pneumatic arm, to get in the swing of things. And now you can buy that arm, to put your arm where Fillion put his arm.

Molly Quinn, in case you were wondering, plays Nathan Fillion’s TV daughter on ABC‘s Castle, which has not shirked from making references to Firefly before, and since Quinn is a fan of Firefly who also likes to dress up for Comic Con… well. It had to be done. Video below of how the idea came about.
