Star Trek Into Darkness Gets a New International Trailer With Just a Little More Plot

Another day, another Star Trek trailer that stays vague on Benedict Cumberbatch‘s character. What it does have, however, is a lady standing around in her underwear for no apparent reason, right in the middle of the late-trailer-explosion/reaction-face montage. Apparently, this was included based on the assumption that folks on the internet would choose that frame to examine closely and at high resolution, because a url was hidden in it that linked to a previously unreleased poster, implicitly rewarding a fanbase for ogling a female character. So, that’s gross.

You missed that the shuttle is named Takei!

What’s up with the white swirling lights around Cumbervillain’s head when he’s piloting that fighter? Is that lens flare or is he doing that?

I believe that’s the transporter look.

This IS the sequel to a film where Uhura is shown off in her underwear, groped by a drunken frat boy, and exists primarily to act as a foil between two male characters.

It looks like really cool sci-fi and fun, but dammit it looks like Star Trek: Bourne Ultimatum. I can’t be the only one who wants their Star Trek actually in space and on other planets dealing with other races and cultures? At least they DID have that in the last movie, so I guess we just deal with an Earth based thriller chapter in this one.I just wish that if they want to make a Bourne-esque/Grisham-esque thriller, make THAT movie, don’t shoehorn Star Trek into it. Keep Star Trek Star Trek.

    I can see that now.

At least her skills as a linguist were actually plot-relevant. That’s better than she usually gets.

    Well, Takay.

Ugh, I just noticed elsewhere that has the Eve nekkid shot posted, there is lens flare reflecting OFF HER BRA!!!!!

if they even could’ve just had some dialogue to provide SOME sort of context, something about EITHER of the characters, i’d give it a pass. But that is just straight up jarring (in an otherwise TERRIFIC trailer). I can take a sleeker, sexier, more action-packed re-boot (“TO THE EXTREEEEME!”) but Trek is better than that.

Y’know, i had been feeling the exact same way. But then i remembered the “everything happens on the ship” axiom always had to do w/ budgetary restrictions (including Wrath of Kahn). Now, that doesn’t address the Bourne vibe (or the legitimate “too Star Wars-y” complaint) but there’s been some good Trek, planet-side :)

Is the blonde lady Nurse Chapel?

    LOL “Cumbervillain”

God I hope these trailers aren’t super representative of the movie’s plot. Just because it’s a reboot of the original series doesn’t mean the ladies should be the same cheesecake they (mostly) were back then. The entire point of Trek ‘verse is promoting equality and respect, it’s aspirational unlike soooo much other sci fi.

Also, show of hands, who else thinks blondie is being established purely so she can be killed off?

There’s alien culture stuff in the first ten minutes going by that IMAX preview, so neener :)
